Complex Learning Analysis Part 1: Fostering Critical Thinking First Grade: Students will be able to describe characters, settings, and major events in a story using key details. Learning Activity

Explanation

Sitting in a circle the teacher will start by reading a story to the students. The teacher will have written the following questions on the board who, what, where, when and why for the students to answer them about the story and she will proceed to write the answer in the board and discuss them with the students. Also, the teacher will help the students use their creative thinking by asking them to remember and identify important events from the story. By giving the students the opportunity to participate in group discussions it will help them remember important details about the story, it will encourage creative thinking and help the students feel comfortable when working in groups. Another important aspect of this activity is that it will give the opportunity for the teacher to determine the level of comprehension of each student as well as how well they retain information.

Third Grade: Students will be able to determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, distinguishing literal from nonliteral language. Learning Activity

The use of task cards with literal & non-literal phrases for students to learn to differentiate both. Teacher divides the students in to groups of four and give each group certain amount of task cards students need to identify each statement as literal or non-literal. At the end the teacher will explain the correct answer with the students.

Explanation This activity will help students determine the meaning of words and phrases. It will also improve the communication skills of the students and how to use literal and non-literal language. Another important skill the students will learn the difference ways the English language can it be interpreted. Fifth Grade: Students will be able to produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. Learning

teacher will give the students writing prompts they will need to used to be able to write their story. The students will submit their writing to their teacher for her to evaluate their writing skills. By giving students the opportunity to express themselves and feel comfortable with their writing. It will help them become better writers and use their creative thinking. The students will learn how to summarize and organize their ideas.

Seventh Grade: Students will be able to write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence. Learning Activity

Explanation

A learning activity were the students are writing an argumentative essay about is the use of technology is affecting students in school today. The students will need to think about if this is true or not, they will need to find evidence to support their argument. This will show the students personal opinion on the topic. This activity helps students to become better writers and encourages students to use creative thinking to support their topic. Students can develop good argumentative skills to defend their point of view. Teachers can determine the ability for students to support their claims and their writing skills.

Part 2: Examine Learners’ Development The most important tasks a teacher is to understand how their student learn and their learning preferences. When students do not have the same learning preference it can be difficult and frustrating for the students and teachers. Therefore, is important to differentiate how children learn and how they adsorb the information given to them. An example of this difference style of learning can be that in a class there is a girl name Leanna and a boy name Matthew who are the same age but have different ways of learning. Both students are different in the physical development in the way that Leanna is more mature than Matthew because she makes better choices when it comes to behavior in class. When it comes to cognitive development Leanna has develop her language skills earlier than Matthew, she is more fluent and participates more in class, but Matthew performs better on visual tasks like working with 3D shapes. Linguistically Leanna tends to speak more meticulously and is takes her time answering questions whereas Matthew is a lot quicker to answer. According to Ormrod & Jones “Development doesn’t necessarily proceed at a constant rate. Instead, periods of relatively rapid growth (spurts) may appear between periods of slower grow. (Ormrod & Jones, 2018). Overall, every student has different ways of learning when it comes to their physical, cognitive and linguistic development. In the end it does not matter if you are in the same or different class every student learns different ways.
