Description

Complex Learning Analysis Part 1: Fostering Critical Thinking First Grade: Students will be able to describe characters, settings, and major events in a story using key details. Learning Activity

Explanation

Recalling story events. Teacher will read a story to the students and write key questions like who, what, when, where, and why on the board as questions for students to answer. The teacher will get the information from the students and write the answers on the board. Creative thinking from students will be used. The teacher will encourage the children to recall important events in the story. Group discussions help to jog student’s memory on the events that happened in the story. The group atmosphere will also help children have a sense of comfortability for working in groups. This method of teaching will help the teacher to see how much information the students are retaining and seeing if the students are comprehending the story during story time.

Third Grade: Students will be able to determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, distinguishing literal from nonliteral language. Learning Activity

The teacher will group the children and allow them to identify literal and nonliteral statements on the cards. At the end of the activity the teacher will discuss the answers with the students. The students will be more familiar with words and phrases from the task cards. These cards will help the students communicate better with literal and nonliteral language. Lots of creative thinking will be involved in this writing exercise. Students will do some research to support their ideas and thoughts. This exercise will help to develop good writing skills for students.

Part 2: Examine Learners’ Development Children learn at different levels and they have different learning preferences. When children do not possess the same learning preference as another child it can sometimes be difficult to learn their preference or reach that particular child. These difference in learning can bring frustration to the child and the teacher. Therefore, it is very important to learn a child’s learning preference and use it help the child progress. An example of different learning preferences can be two children who are the same age but have different ways of learning. We will name the children, child one and child two. The students are different physically in development. Child one is more mature than child two because it is evident that they make better behavior choices during class time. Children’s day to day behaviors interact with environmental factors (Ormrod & Jones, 2018). Cognitively child two’s language skills are more developed than the other child. That child has developed their language skills better than the other child. Yet child two leans more toward visual task like 3D shapes. Linguistically child one speaks clearer and takes time to answer questions and child two answers questions quickly. Overall, every student has different ways of learning when it comes to physical, cognitive, and linguistic development. Environmental factors also make substantial contributions to children’s development (Ormrod & Jones, 2018). These factors can slow children down, but it can be overcome with using different © 2018 Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

learning techniques. Learning those techniques can show forth as being very beneficial to a child’s educational development.
