Description

“Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card In this particular book written by Orson Scott Card, he surrounds the story of struggle and purpose around a young boy who goes by the name of Ender. There are many lessons to be taught by the main character, who for the most part, experiences the big changes to his life as a child. One of the more important lessons to be learned is about childhood. Childhood is

something that can go by really fast, and at time isn't experienced by many children. It’s all just fun and games until you’re faced to face reality. Many won’t face it at such a young age like Ender, but other people are forced to grow up fast and just deal with it all. This teaches us that not everything lasts forever. Some people in the world are forced to grow up faster than others. Another one of Ender’s struggles that kept recurring in the book and is something really important and can even be applied to life today is the idea of competition. Competition is something that will always exist in the world. In order to prove that you’re the best that they’ve got, you have to go through challenges and even break some bones, metaphorically in this case in order to get to a disciplined version of yourself. Without competition there is little success to be made. It’s what allows us to progress in our specific discipline and stand out from everyone else that is trying to achieve the same thing. Ender teaches us this through his time at Battle School. Community is for a lot of people, home. It’s what you build and all that you know. Ender’s game teaches us that the community that you are around and are forced to grow up with can shape you as a person drastically. For Ender, his community was filled with children who were forced to grow up and defend their planet at all costs, having to leave their family behind. This community understood the high stakes that were being played. Life can get really rough, but like Ender, you have to adapt and put your selfish feelings and opinions aside in order to focus on the ore important things. Everyone has a purpose, you have to fight to where you want to be.

Either you fight to the top or you stay at the bottom, hoping that everything will end up okay. Ender is put through the many challenges of having to get to the top through his encounters with all the bullies and the games that he is forced to play....
