ENERGY DESIGN LAB overview In this lab, you will be investigating the COST of using 5 appliances/devices in your home. 1. Over the course of 5 days, you will record how much TIME each of your chosen devices/appliances is used (this will be your raw data). Note: you must choose devices/appliances that are PLUGGED IN (not battery operated). To make your life easier, choose devices that are found on energyusecalculator.com Your Independent Variable is the type of devices/appliances. Your Dependent Variable is the COST to operate your various devices/appliances. 2. This is a design lab, so you will have to complete a lab report (similar to the one that you wrote at the beginning of the semester) - this report will be done in sections and you will be given feedback as you complete each section. Make sure to do all of your lab report writing on the Energy Lab template that I’ve assigned to you in Google Classroom. 3. You will have to do most of the normal lab report sections (RQ, hypothesis etc). When you get to the Processed Data section, you will be asked to process your data in a couple of ways: ● Calculate the average time each device is used per day ● Calculate the Energy Used by each device per day ● Calculate the Energy Used by each device per year ● Calculate the COST TO OPERATE each device per year ● Graph your results Use this site to find Power Ratings for the devices/appliances you choose. This is your CULMINATING TASK for the Electricity Unit. This lab report and a Google Forms Test will make up your summative mark for this unit....
