Summary

discussion post on how to speak to different social styles...

Description

Given what you've learned and discussed this week about your style and the styles of those around you, what strategies can you use to best accomplish tasks, given your own style and the different styles you around you? What different tactics might you use to best 'connect' with others to help them buy-in to your position? Document how you are engaging with people in your workplace as it relates to style. Discuss successes and situations that did not go as planned. Provide tactics you will use in the future to achieve a different outcome. When accomplishing tasks at work, I find it best when one person decides the plan and divides up the work. Then everyone else can do their part and as people finish, they can help clothes. Now that I know more about my social style, wanting to complete tasks like this makes sense. I prefer when other people take charge and like doing my part before moving on to help others. I also enjoy helping others with their tasks and getting to know more about them as we work. When connecting with people, I think it is important to get to know them both personally and at work. Learning their strengths and weaknesses is helpful, but also learning if they are sensitive or emotional can be important. Today at work, I had a moment that did not go totally as planned. There was the option for one of us to leave early and it was between myself and one other coworker. Being amiable, I did not really speak up about why I thought I should get to leave over the other person. The other person is also older and has more seniority with the company, so to avoid confrontation I let them leave even though I wanted to. In the future, I need to speak up and not be afraid of the possible confrontation that will arise if I speak my mind....
