Description

Two characteristics of Emerson that I believe a hero must have would be selfconfidence. Beowulf shows these characteristics. Example: "Alone now with Grendel, I'll solve the problem, with the evil monster, the giant, decide it." In that sentence Beowulf was willing to risk his own life to fight Grendel just to protect other people, whether he knew them or not. And the other characteristic is a balanced mind. He says, "The enemy I must seize, fight for my life. Then, he must gladly trust in the condemnation of the Lord upon whom death seizes." To me, this shows that Beowulf is saying that he will fight for his life and trust the Lord's condemnation if he dies. He doesn't care about his safety, he just wants to take care of everyone else and kill Grendel just to keep others safe. Comparing someone I know personally who exhibits Emerson's hero traits would be my father. My father has always shown great determination to take care of me. He also faces problems, even putting himself at risk, if necessary, to protect me. I learned to be honest with him, because he speaks the truth about everything and he is very kind to people, and always goes out of his way to help them. Even when people talk badly about him, and say that he won't make his dreams come true, he shows them that they are wrong and does it. He trusts himself when others don't trust him. He always does everything with dedication and is very positive. I love my dad because he was always by my side protecting me when I needed him, he is my hero and the person I look up to. This shows that, in addition to having the heroic characteristics determined by Emerson, he has the strength and courage to face any adversity....
