English Creative Writing

It was a war of the mind, that would never end. I wanted so bad to just run away, and never have to see their faces again. I was not good enough – and I don’t think I ever will be. My Father always said that I could be whatever, and even if I amounted to nothing, he would be proud. But then, he died. His death caused shockwaves in the family and broke us all. My Brother – who as a kid played football with me constantly, ran off to play with the army instead. He always said he was going to join the army, but I never took it seriously until that moment. That was the loneliest I had ever felt up until this moment – where now I have no one at all. My Mother, who once ran around the garden with me planting pretty bulbs and dancing around the cherry tree grow into a bitter and spiteful woman and with the entrance of my new “Dad” – I refuse to call him that – she only got worse. Pushing me above and beyond, but also pushing me away. Her form of above and beyond however, meant “do the best possible or give up and die.” The latter, nearly taking place. My Father seemed to be the glue in such a mismatched family that without him everything was ruined. I blame myself for it all – although in my dreams he told me it was never my fault, and that “everything happens for a reason” but I think all that’s crap, and I could never believe it myself.
