This on-line course begins at 8:00 a.m., Monday, July 1 st and ends Thursday, August 15th at 11:30 p.m.

On-Line Office Hours DAB: Tuesday & Wednesday from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. AV: Monday 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. & Thursday 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. During on-line office hours the D2L chatroom will normally be monitored in real time for quick response. At other times, students can expect replies to emails & D2L chatroom posts within ~24 hours. Students are always welcome to schedule individual appointments as well.

Learning Objectives  By the end of the course students should be able to…  Explain epidemiology and public health in the context of chronic and acute health issues facing contemporary society.  Describe and analyze specific case studies.  Think critically about epidemiology and public health’s role in the prevention and control of disease.  Distinguish between disease causality and association.  Interpret published epidemiologic findings. Course Expectations To engage students in a learning environment…  Students are encouraged to post questions to the D2L Discussion Forum at any time and to help each other by engaging in respectful conversation.  Questions emailed to the Instructor may be posted to the D2L Discussion Forum by the Instructor to help students learn from each other and to highlight areas students may find difficult/important. When this is done, students’ names will not be included. Readings No textbook is required. Comprehensive lecture materials and additional background readings are available on the course's D2L web site. FYI: For Your Information Material labeled “FYI” will not be tested on and is provided as extra material students may find interesting. All material on D2L not labeled “FYI” is material that may be tested on. Examinations Grades will be based on 4 examinations (multiple choice questions). While exams are noncumulative, you may be tested on “Key Concepts” throughout all exams. The exams will test your knowledge of the material presented in lectures (including video presentations and analyses) only. Points obtained from each test will be summed at the end of the semester. Examination Schedule Exams on the following dates will be available in a fully on-line format on the D2L course website between 8:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Upon logging in, you will have 1.5 hours to complete and submit the exam. Assessment All exams are ‘closed-book and closed-note’ and are to be completed independently. All exam questions are worth one point unless indicated otherwise. Final grades will be assigned according to the following distribution: 4.0 ≥ 90%; 3.5 = 85-89% 3.0 = 80-84%; 2.5 = 75-79%; 2.0 = 70-74%; 1.5 = 65-69%; 1.0 = 55-
