Description

Upon completing the EQ-i and DISC survey, it has taught me new key characteristics of my personality as well as reinforcing the existing ones. The survey determined that my style is identified by the word “Chancellor.” This style combines determined individuals who enjoy the fun with business when working. In my experience, I prefer working in groups when given the option because it allows work to split amongst members which bring more feedback, creativity, and efficiency making the assignments more enjoyable. I’ve learned that although I enjoy people, it may not indicate allegiance. This stuck out to me because when it comes to decision making during a given debatable opinion, I’m not afraid to voice my thoughts. I believe that everyone's voices should be heard as it contributes to more communication improving teamwork. Connecting this to my EQI results, it shows that I have strong interpersonal relationships proving that I enjoy collaborating with others to build a support network. Furthermore, chancellors seemingly shift impulsively during tasks. This characteristic personally affects me as it tends to describe me. Oftentimes during group work, I can start on a delegated task and switch to another to get my mind off work. I take these breaks to get a fresh mindset especially after working for a while. When it comes to people, I tend to understand what I want and assign roles to individuals through their strengths and weaknesses to best benefit the results I’m chasing. For instance, in the New Venture report, I chose to do the business model related activities as the other members did the financials, completed the structure and executive summary and finishing the slide deck. These tasks were chosen due to our abilities as individuals to comfortably and efficiently carry out our parts. Places to improve on is my sensitivity to the needs of others. Under the decision making composite of the EQI, it mentions that my problem-solving skills and impulsive control are mid-range. I completely agree because many times I am able to solve problems without my emotions getting in my way while resisting temptations and recognizing my desires. Driven to

see quick and bottom-line results, individuals may see my style as opinionated under pressure which may affect relationships in a workplace environment. Motivated by the ability to direct and have the authority to take risks, I learned I’ve worked best with others who can clearly communicate with me, forward-thinking and are creative. My ideal environment is in situations where it is non-routine, challenging and reaped with rewards. As a result, I perceive myself to influence associates as an instinctive communicator. Thus expressing my flexibility, approachability, and understanding when dealing with colleagues to maintain strong relations. During our New Venture meetings, if a team member can’t make it, I often don’t take it to heart if a valid reason is given as I understand unpredictable circumstances arise in life. To improve for the future, I’ve set goals to be less pessimistic and to be more compassionate when listening to the ideas and beliefs of others. I realized I am too focused on systematic processes. Moreover, learning to become more sensitive to criticism, will allow me to clarify expectations before undertaking new projects to meet my standards. Using my newly acquired knowledge about personality and characteristics, in future courses, I will try to incorporate a more positive mindset being more open to individuals by being less controlling and domineering. Referring to the EQI results, my mid-range flexibility and stress tolerance allows for open learning to new points of view and resiliency under pressure. I will also need to work my patience with helping others reach their goals and assisting them by putting in more energy into explaining the reasons behind my statements and proposals. Lastly, I’ve learned that not everyone moves at the same pace and that individuals work most comfortably in their own environment, therefore, I must be mature and change my habits to execute a plan to work around problems that may emerge....
