Description

Ethical Decision-Making Name: Sabrina Howard Course: CWV-101 Date: 1/24/2021 Instructor: Mathew Hampton For questions 2-6, chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document in the topic study materials. Use critical thinking as well as support from the topic study materials to answer the following prompts. 1. Why do Christians believe that morality is absolute and objective, rather than relative and subjective? If morality is objective, where do Christians get their moral standard? Cite Chapter 7 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and/or topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. Your answer in 75-100 words: The Objective moral beliefs for Christians are that there is a God. Like in the textbook “The Christian worldview sees all truth as ultimately coming from God” (The Wisdom of Absolutes). In the bible there is the ten commandments, and these are a set of rules or moral laws. These commandments were sent from God to Moses as instructions for his people. These commandments are Christians moral standard of living. These commandments from God are intended to lead us to eternal life. Jesus says that this is thru him alone.

2. Use the case you chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document to answer the following questions to build the Christian ethical response. Use logical reasoning (general revelation). Cite Bible passages (special revelation), The Beginning of Wisdom textbook, and/or the topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. a. Which case did you choose? Decisions of Life and Death b. In Chapter 2 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and the Topic 1 Overview, the elements of a worldview (ultimate reality, nature of the universe, humanity, knowledge, ethics, purpose) are presented. In the case you chose, which

worldview element is going to be the biggest factor for determining right and wrong in the case you chose? Why? Your answer in 75-100 words: The element from Chapter 2 that sticks out most to me is purpose. The reason purpose sticks out to me is because everyone has a purpose. God say that 'Before I form thee in the belly, I have known thee; and before thou comest forth from the womb I have separated thee, a prophet to nations I have made thee.' (Jermiah 1:5) He is saying before your cells even started dividing in your mother’s stomach he knew who you were and what you were meant to do with your life. In Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. God has a plan for every single person that is born. c. How does the Christian worldview describe the worldview element you identified? Your answer in 75-100 words:

In the context of worldview studies, purpose refers to the underlying reason for which something was created and the ends for which it currently exists. Discerning © 2020. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

the purpose of some thing or of a living creature can provide great insight into its nature and significance.” (Hiles & Smith, Ch.4). In worldview studies, purpose discusses the underlying reason for which something was created and the ends for which it currently exists. Discerning the purpose of some thing or of a living creature can provide great insight into its nature and significance.” (Hiles & Smith, Ch.4). I believe that people are constantly searching for the reason that they are here and what they are meant to do that will leave their mark. Unfortunately, not everyone finds it and they fall short of accomplishing their purpose. Whether the reason be they end their lives early or they chose to not pursue it. There are many people that go after knowledge and do what makes them happy. This usually leads to them finding what they are truly here for. d. What are Bible passages (cite at most three) that will guide the ethics for the case you choose? How do these Bible passages apply to this case? Your answer in 75-100 words: Psalm 57:2 says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” This is the understanding of God's purpose for your life. God has numbered your days and will fulfill every purpose He has for you if you trust him. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”( Proverbs 3:5-6) If you trust God then you will be able to whether any storm that life brings because you know that its all working together for your good. God will give you the strength to do so. Just like in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me." You will not have to end your life because you will know that as long as you have breathe in your body God is not done with you yet.

e. Based on your answers to b and c, explain the Christian response to the case you chose. In other words, how might the Christian worldview resolve the issue? Your answer in 75-100 words: Christian worldview believes that all live has purpose and there is a reason that God created them no matter the circumstance. Regardless, of our understanding or issue life is precious and worth holding on to. There are so meant outreaches and resources that can help those that are in need no matter the issue. The is not to only help them physically with stuff but is to give hope. When sharing the love of Christ, they give people hope and faith. 3. Your previous responses built a Christian ethical stance and provided a Christian resolution for the case. How might this Christian resolution to the issue increase human dignity and human value? Your answer in 50-75 words: I believe that purpose intensifies human dignity and value because it makes people have to look for their personal calling. Regardless, on how difficult life can be it is important to find your purpose in life. This alone makes people be more accountable in working to live their lives as Christ would want them to. This is what is going to make people truly happy. 4. The Christian position that humans should flourish comes from belief in the goodness of God. How so? What are the connections between God's goodness and human flourishing? Your answer in 50-75 words: So many people do not understand the power of the Holy Bible and they do not know the depth of God’s goodness. People tend to get caught up in the negativity of the world that is all around them and they assume that it is God’s fault. When the truth is that the suffering stems from the fall of man when Adam and Eve messed up. Human flouring is what people experience when they are good and honest people and it goes along with the bible. 5. Considering the Christian resolution, you built for the case and everyone involved in the scenario, what might be some benefits or unintended consequences that come from this resolution? What might be challenging for people to accept or do? Your answer in 75-100 words: Based on the scenario I chose; I think that all of the people were affected. People are suffering and without God they will continue to. Especially, those that are not able to use the many outreaches that are out there. Without hope there is a feeling of being alone and misery. When people are hopeless, they become desperate and sometimes they make unwise decision that send their lives down and even darker path. When people refuse to

accept Christ because they feel that they are being bound by the “rules” they never get that relief. They continue to suffer and be in pain. 6. What are some ways that Christians should be active in helping to alleviate the suffering related to this issue? Give specific examples that ordinary people can do. Your answer in 75-100 words: I think that many Christians can do a lot to ease the suffering of others and be a light to the people. When Christians choose to let their light shine, listen to the Lord’s voice, and be obedient. When we help others whether it be financially or emotionally this can give people hope. When sharing our salvation and showing people how they can be saved, this is better than any amount of money given because your changing someone life for the better.
