Abstract Tourism business affects various sectors of any economy such as transportation, retail, accommodations and many more. The only reason behind this consequences is lack of business ethics.

Introduction: Nowadays, In any sort of marketing strategy, the customer is a taken as the prime factor who will decide the future of a particular business. The business wheel always turns around his wishes and demands. The whomever tries to ignore them will fade away into blackout as per any management books. Yet, tourists all across in india are taken for a ride by unethical business practices. At a hard time of business, everyone tries to retain their customers, it makes sense about how bad you treat your customers and its affects on your business. If you try to cheat your customers who are came from other countries and may not aware of the system, then this leads to the boom in your earnings for sure, but for how long ? Can someone give assurity to retain such practice for the long time without revealing to the global world ? The economic importance of tourism to a destination is commonly under-appreciated and extends well beyond core hospitality and transportation sectors. Under-mentioned table shows how the money which is spent by the visitors influences the various sectors.

Maybe ‘true’ in the short run, but over a longer period, such malpractice leads to un-satisfaction within all customers in rapidly expanding globalized commercial environment, where everyone is connected with each other through the social media. This sort of scenario is created in India regarding tourism Business. Once any business lost its reputation in minds of their customers, there wii be difficult to regain it back to the original position. Example about the scarcity of the travellers is as under: “In 2011, India received only 6.5 million foreign tourists as compared to 57 million in China, according to World Bank. Forget China, India could not match even a smaller country, Malaysia (25 million). Given our diverse geographies and rich cultural heritage, this figure is shamefully low by any standard.”(Singh and Sharma,2013)

I would like to cover some reason as under:

• India's perception in the international community India’s image in the international community is not positive, especially regarding safety. Is it safe for any Canadian woman to travel across India alone ? Many women shared their bad experience specifically about sexual harassment.

• Lack of basic tourism infrastructure like information centres, transportation, etc Many important heritage places lack accessibility for the travellers to visit. Ticket booking system makes this even worst such as lottery winning.

• Attitude of most Indians in the tourism industry Usually, travel guides, taxi drivers, shopkeepers, hotel owners have attitude to make money from the tourists even after live in a country that claims to practice “Atithi Devo Bhava" (a guest is like God).

• Exploitation of "foreign" tourists Such mentality like the foreign is richer than them, so they have a special price(2-3x) for the tourists.

• Lack of a proper “experience” Unprofessional guides usually are not able to give you experience of cultural nuances and saver the local flavours of the particular places.

• Poor planning and government involvement Government of India usually take less interest in the improvisation of the system even after their responsibility. As per Kantian ethical theory, every people related to the tourism business such as travel guides, taxi drivers, shopkeepers, hotel owners need to understand their duties. As per business ethics, they have to serve the needs of the customers. They cannot take leverage of the unawareness of the foreigners. This can be discriminatory action between local and foreign travellers as you have different sort of prices and hospitality for them.

Max Weber in his magnum opus Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism showed that values determined social action and culture shaped economic development. Discipline, pursuit of wealth and abiding by contracts are necessity for growth of capitalism. Government as policy maker, has the highest responsibility to improve the unethical system and apply guideline for well-being. India has the one of the biggest network of railway, still Government of India lacks business sense to use it as a marketing tool. One of the reasons is low level of hospitality and bad time management. The real ethical question over the government body is that “what are they doing over such volatile issue ? ” For long time sustainable growth for the economy and businesses of any country a high level of trust between the customers and businesses must be balanced. If ethical practices are improved , there may be chance that tourists will start travelling to India again, and the economy of India will thrive and meet new standards of economic success.

Discussion Questions:

• Different sorts of price range for same facility as per the feature of the personnel is ethical for gaining profit in business or nor ?

• Which is more beneficial (1) gaining reputation or (2) having more cash inflow by crook someone ?

• Is government of the particular country equally liable for creating such situation ? • What type of ethical solutions need to implement ? • Does whistle-blowing against such issue is sufficient enough to make any drastic change ?
