Question 7

[5 marks]

Below is a sentence extracted from a letter to a client. 1. Redraft the sentence given below so that it complies with the principles of clear writing. 2. Explain what the main problem with the original version is. Use the space below, as indicated. In describing the main problem with each original sentence, be specific about the category of structural flaw that it illustrates. So, for example, you might say ‘the action is located in a passive finite verb’ or ‘it uses too much legal jargon’. Do NOT say merely that ‘it’s confusing’ or ‘it’s difficult to follow’. In redrafting the sentence, focus on correcting its structure, its grammar and spelling, and also its legalese (if any). Stick a close as is reasonable to the original wording. Bear in mind that you may need to divide up the sentence into two (2) or more sentences.

Question 8

[4 marks]

[Details of a reference – book, journal article, case or similar material – will be provided for you] You have three tasks here: 1. Paraphrase the above sentence as if you are citing it in your essay, and write your version out below. NOTE: because this is a paraphrase, and not a direct quote, it is fine to completely rewrite it using different (and better!) language. However, your revision should try to remain close to the original in meaning. 2. Pretend you are adding a footnote and write the number 5 in the appropriate place in relation to the sentence. 3. Finally, write the correct AGLC citation under the rewritten sentence.

PART B WRITING DEMONSTRATION LONG ANSWER (25 marks in total) QUESTION: This question has two parts: 9(a) Write a checklist and/or some notes that you can use to prepare a XXX. The checklist or notes should include details of the sorts of things that a XXX should include and how you should approach the task. (10 marks) 9(b) Write a XXX ... (15 marks) [some more instructions here…] I understand that you would normally produce several drafts of a XXX like this to get it right. I want to see your best effort at a first draft here. [some more instructions here....]
