“What to Do and Say After a Tough Reorganization” – While reorganizations of a business can be difficult and troublesome, they can be made easier by staying optimistic, listening to senior leadership, setting goals, and reaching out to coworkers. It is important to stay in contact with old coworkers and to help them out because they are a warning sign to what the job market is like. Once the reorganization is complete make it noticeable that you agree with the company’s decisions and you want the reorganization to succeed. Reorganizations can take a long time so it is important to stay patient and align your priorities so you can plan for the future. If the company’s reorganization does not look promising then it would be wise to begin searching for new employment because the job market can be difficult. This article discusses the importance of setting goals after a reorganization. We talked indepth about what a good goal should be. A good goal should be specific, measurable, aggressive, realistic, and time-bound. Keeping these characteristics of a goal in mind is important during a reorganization because the timing and the nature of the goal can keep a company in business. After a reorganization the company should have a new goal in mind for its employees so they can work toward something. As we discussed in class, objectives can be divided by a company’s segments. It would be advantageous to have objectives for individual employees, departments, divisions, and even top management so that another reorganization is not needed in the future. The article also discusses how stressful a reorganization can be because you may have had to lay off close friends or possibly family members. We learned in class that the five ways to manage stress is to diagnose it regularly, manage exposure to stressors, manage your perceptions and interpretations of the stressors, increase moderators that reduce stress, and reduce the moderators that increase stress. These five stress management strategies are pivotal during a reorganization because stress can cause employees to lose confidence in their work and loss interest in staying with the company. Reorganizations are stressful because there is a lot of unknown variables and a lot of moving parts. Keeping these five steps in mind can reduce stress throughout a company and help make a reorganization transition easier. The last way that this article ties into our class in with group decision making. During a reorganization many decisions need to be made and we learned how to come up with the best decisions. Cooperation rather than competition is crucial for effective group decision making because you need to act as a group rather than an individual. If people are making selfish decisions that can put the company in jeopardy as well as other people’s jobs. Trust is also needed for effective group decision making as we learned. If everyone trusts their coworkers then they can be confident that everyone will make the right decision that is in the best interest for the company. A reorganization sounds very difficult from this article but after taking Organizational Behavior I am a little more confident I will make the right decisions if I am part of a reorganization. I have a lot of knowledge that I can put to use to make it less stressful....
