FCPX: Color Correction COLOR, SATURATION, EXPOSURE To adjust COLOR, SATURATION and EXPOSURE • In the INSPECTOR, click on the (>) next to Correction 1 • Every clip has a color corrector attached to it • Choose Color, Saturation or Exposure • Pull the Global, Shadows, Midtones, or Highlights “PUCK” on the COLOR BOARD to make adjustments • The Color Board has an additive and negative side • You can also move the Pucks up and down using the up and down arrow keys • Auto-balance by checking the Balance box (this does not always work well)
VECTOR SCOPES To make adjustments using VIDEO SCOPES • Window Viewer Display Show Video Scopes • Under Settings, select Waveform • In the Inspector, choose Color Correction • Click on Exposure • Set it so the WHITE peaks at 100 and the BLACK sits on 0 • Adjust the mids to your liking • You can also make the adjustments as it’s playing, in real-time
MASKS To make color adjustments to part of a shot using a SHAPE MASK • Click on SHAPE MASK button next to Correction 1 • Adjust mask size and feather size • Go into Color Board • At bottom of the Inspector, click on Inside or Outside (of the mask) • Make adjustments using the Color Board
To select, isolate, and CHANGE A PARTICULAR COLOR in a shot

• Highlight the shot you want to adjust • Select the COLOR MASK button next to Correction 1 • Use the eye dropper tool to select a color in the shot • Go into the Color Board • Select Inside or Outside (of your chosen color) • Make adjustments in the Color Board MATCH COLOR To MATCH COLOR between shots automatically • Highlight the clip you want to adjust • Click on MATCH COLOR • On a different clip, skim to a frame you want to match, and click to preview • If you like the automatic color match, click on APPLY MATCH in the Viewer (this tool doesn’t always work well)
