Abstract
Hair care is easily one of the most prominent industries in the world. Shampoos and conditioners are widely used; both having a variety of properties to help in hair maintenance. However, commonly sold shampoo is made up of 80% percent water, and the rest is comprised of chemicals and artificial substances that are unnecessary and harmful for one’s hair. This study is expected to be beneficiary, primarily, to the field of cosmetology as it provides substantiation of the effectiveness and consistency of using Gumamela (Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis Linn) as an organic hair growth treatment; to provide accurate information and validations regarding their study and aims to have better understanding in dealing and approaching individuals having concerns on their hair condition. Likert scale questionnaire were conducted in the study. The study underwent Descriptive statistics, which is to assay the data collected from the survey questionnaires that the respondents answered. The results revealed that could act as a great remedy for hair fall, since the flower has a great combination of vitamin C, phosphorous, riboflavin and calcium. The hair will get enough nourishment, as the hibiscus flower contains carotene, which at a very early stage also induces hair graying. Thus, the researchers recommend this study to the future researchers so that it can help them understand about the effectiveness of using this product as an organic hair growth treatment.

Chapter I INTRODUCTION 1.0 Background of the Study A person’s hair is their best accessory. An example of an unnecessary ingredient is sulfate. Sulfate is a cleansing agent; it is ingredient that creates the lathering effect whilst removing the dirt an oil from the scalp and hair. However, this ingredient also removes the scalp and the hairs natural oils- making your hair dry and more susceptible to breakage.
Why should one opt for organic hair care products? Using organic products means that there are no synthetic and genetically modified ingredients. Gumamela (Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis Linn) is a preferred subject for research papers. That is because: Gumamela is a complete flower. Every part of it can be used and studied since it has both the male and female reproductive organs of a plant. It is also rich in natural substances. A large amount of studies have been published for the use of Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis Linn in terms of natural and organic remedies. This results in the varied uses of the whole plant. One of its uses is for hair growth and treatment. According to Balasubramian, C. (2018) Hibiscus flowers (popularized in South India) are used for the hair. The flowers are heated or boiled in coconut oil and then left in the oil, which then darkens the hair. The leaves of hibiscus trees are also used as a shampoo as it leaves the hair soft and shiny.
As stated by Ayurveda (2019), Hibiscus promotes hair growth and prevents premature hair greying by reducing excessive body heat, stimulating blood circulation to the scalp, and increasing the supply of essential nutrients to the hair follicles. Based on Adhirajan et al., Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis Linn is capable of nurturing the hair, therefore stimulating its growth invivo and in-vitro methods. By studying the feasibility study of the Hibiscus plant as a hair treatment, it can lead us to an organic, cost-effective, and an environmental friendly hair care product. By going for organic products, less artificial substances are generated for our consumption; this is beneficial for both our bodies and environment. It can also help future researchers create an organic solution for minimizing hair loss or even develop a cure for baldness.*

2.3 Related Literature Natural products in the form of herbal formulations are commonly used for hair tonic, hair growth promoter, hair conditioner, hair-cleansing agent, and anti-dandruff agents. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn, which is commonly known as Gumamela, is one of the natural herbs that can enhance hair growth. (Der Pharmacia Lettre, 2011)
Gumamela is an evergreen woody, glabrous, showy shrub that can reach up to four (4) meters high. The hibiscus has become very popular ornamental plant in the Philippines and other Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam because of its tropical appeal. It is usually used in adorning many home gardens and public places such as schools, parks, golf courses, and resorts because of its attractive and big flowers with striking tropical appeal. (Magdalita et al, 2019) The colors of the flowers ranges from red, yellow, maroon, white to pink and mauve. The brightly hibiscus flowers are rich in nutrients such as amino acids, which is necessary for producing keratin, the building blocks of hair. It is effective for stimulating hair regrowth even from dormant follicles and bald patches. (“Hibiscus Flower Promotes Hair Growth”, 2017)
Leaves and flowers from the Hibiscus plant have an incredible moisturizing effect on hair. Thus, as stated from traditional literature (Nadkami, 1954; Kumar et al, 1994), it is well recognized that the leaves and flowers of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn have components that can enhance hair growth and has anti-greying properties. The flowers of Gumamela contain the compound hibiscetin, including benzene and alcohol, which possesses anti-estrogenic or antifertility properties. The hibiscus flower also contains flavonoid aglycones including flavamol quercetin and anthocyanin cyaniding. (Philippine Science Letters, 2013)
In addition, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn can be utilized for medicine and known to treat several illnesses and conditions. It can be used as an expectorant, diuretic, anti-infectious, antiinflammatory, antipyretic anodyne, and refrigerant to treat illnesses such as Hair fall and Dandruff. (Annetan, T., 2015)
2.4 Related Studies A recent study found that the flower extract of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn has a potential hair growth effect in-vivo and in-vitro study, and perchance due to the presence of flavonoids
