A portion of the series of artwork entitled Filipino Struggles Through History by Carlos "Botong" Francisco depicts the attack of the Katipuneros led by a great leader, Andres Bonifacio. It can be seen in the painting the struggles and happenings during the Spanish colonial period wherein Bonifacio's figure is very compelling with his eagerness to move forward along with the Katipuneros on their zeal for Philippine independence and freedom. There are fire and ships in the background representing the battles, as well as bamboo spears, bolos, and rifles that are used in fighting the Spanish soldiers and I observe that the artist used light colors in the mural that, for me, presents positivity and hope. This painting has a vital impact on Filipinos because it paved the way for our country's freedom from Spanish ruling after a very long time. Bonifacio's act of courage and perseverance imposed a raging belief in independence that everyone assesses; it is an eye-opener that changed most people’s points of view especially on the account of one’s thinking. The Philippine Revolution is an epitome for the youth today to be open-minded to advocate more effectively on the causes we believe in – to achieve justice and righteousness. As a youth, it allows us to be independent thinkers and to be more engaged in what is happening around us. Filipinos are becoming more vocal nowadays and are building a strong argument that uses morality as a basis. Because of the Katipunan’s revolution and the countless bloody battles, people recognize the value of upholding human rights and promoting the common good in the communities, for we are now free from foreign powers....
