The above perceptual maps show the expected positioning and current positions of the upcoming consoles. The Sony PlayStation 5 and Digital edition targets 17 to 34-year-old segment of gamer who sees cost, size, and resolution as their main priority. Based on both figures, they should convey a distinctive image of the product to the market and adjust and promote it better than its competitors in what they are lacking at. PlayStation 5 and Digital Edition Perceptual Map (Size and Loading time)

Figure _: Xbox S(left), Xbox X(middle) and PS5(right) size comparison The perceptual map above shows the PlayStation 5 and Digital Edition position in terms of size and resolution. In this case, both the PS5 product is known to be noticeably big and bulky in size for this series. The PlayStation 5 is 390mm tall, 260mm deep, and 104mm wide and for PS5 Digital Edition, it is the same except that it's 12mm less wide because of the lack of the disc drive bulge, making them the biggest video gaming console ever and they are no likely able to fit in smaller TV units. Xbox X will be 301mm tall x 151mm deep x 151mmmm wide. Although it is said to be relatively huge as well, but its vastly smaller as compared to PS5, where there were reviews saying that it looks better as a skyscraper. Xbox S on the other hand will be approximately 30% smaller as compared to Series X due to the reduced resolution texture packages needed for games. For Nintendo Switch 2, the size is rumoured to be like Nintendo switch, being the smallest major game console on the market.

Loading wise, both PS5 consoles are going to be noticeably faster than the Xbox Series , leaving them in the dust when it comes to load and install times due to PS5 super-fast custom 825GB SSD storage drive with 5.5GB/s (Raw)/ 8-9GB/S (Compressed). This means faster load times, few loading screens, high-speed streaming, and more. Whereas for Xbox series, although it also equips with SSD, but users will notice the difference in speed as compared to PS5, which makes the topic on SSD the highlight in Sony reveal stream in March 2020. With that said, Xbox series are still able to load games super-fast, with a mere difference of average 3 seconds loading time between both Series X and Series S.

As for Nintendo switch 2, it is rumoured that the 2 nd generation will be a more powerful Nintendo Switch console with upgraded interactivity and improved display quality. If that is true, it means that Nintendo 2 will still be using eMMC flash memory as well as a slot for expandable SD storage card, which will be defiantly way slower as compared to an SSD. If Nintendo wish to set a Switch Pro model apart, they will need to include a significant amount of internal SSD storage to compete with Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. Size and loading time are one of the determining factors when consumers purchase the product. The PS5 is to be positioned as having bulky size and high cost but having the fastest loading and installation time sets them apart from its competitors. Based on the above perceptual map, it is clear how well-positioned the PlayStation 5 and Digital Version is alongside its competitors. It provides a clearer picture on our competitor’s brand-positioning strategies, which allows Sony to adjust their strategies to better fit the market.

Positioning statement For individuals who wants to enjoy their free time on console games played in the comfort of their own home, both the PlayStation 5 and the digital version is a video game console that provides the most entertainment to users through its gaming experience, multiple video apps, and USB compatibility.

Resolution

Resolution wise, 4K resolution is increasingly common, and all 5 consoles can display visuals at that resolution and 60 frames per second (fps). In some cases, they can even push that to a silky smooth 120 fps. The only difference would be that although 4K resolution is good enough for game console, both the PlayStations and the Xbox Series X can push the visuals to even 8K resolution .However , nobody has the equipment to display that or the content to watch or play. Even for Nintendo 2, they are going to upgrade to 4K graphics to take on its competitors. Quality resolution plays a huge part in consumers purchase decision however, some consumers might also prioritize portability over quality resolution....
