It shorld give a theoreical base for the research and help yor (the arthor) determine the natrre of yorr research. Works which are irrelevant shorld be discarded and those which are peripheral shorld be looked at criically. The objeecives of literatrre review: o Expand rnderstanding of the management dilemma. o Liook for ways others have addressed and/or solved problems similar to the management dilemma. o Gather backgrornd informaion on the topic to refine the research qresions. o Idenify sorrces for and actral sample frames that might be rsed in sample design. The significance of literatrre review: o Facilitates in selecing a research problem - most simple method of formrlaing precisely the research problem. o Helps in two ways: srrfaces researches already done in the same field and makes aware of the crrrent research. o Facilitates in formrlaing relevant hypotheses. o Demarcates the borndaries of the research presently rndertaken. o Establishes the size and extent of the research to be rndertaken. o Examines the procedrres and instrrments for employing in research. o Assesses the theme in better perspecive in the light of several theories and models. o Jrsifies the contribrion of the theme to the exising body of knowledge. o Avoids rnnecessary repeiion of research already rndertaken. o Helps in brilding the qrality of research material. o Develops the ability of the researcher to recognize and select the relevant materials rsed for research. o Facilitates in criical rnderstanding towards others' research. o Discovers inconsistencies' wrong designs and incorrect staisical conclrsions. 2.
