Description

Final seminar Rules of ‘The Red Cup Factor’ To win erect a pyramid and collapse it back down into a single stck in the shortest time You must use all the cups Each row must have one fewer cup than the row below it Your pyramid must have a single peak All the cups must be in a line (no curves or 3d pyramids) Then you have to quickly undo the stack Why did the winner win What about his or her process made them faster What if anything did you notice about his or her approach What approaches did you see that you would avoid We did not win In the final a friend in the crowd helped his friends who got through by telling them they had put too many cups on the bottom row Same rules just bigger – same rules but 13 on the base They struggled more than expected, it took a lot longer to build the stack, the cups kept falling down when building – was it the pressure? Or was it a harder challenge making a bigger stack? When they tried to collapse it down the whole pyramid collapsed Whats the difference between doing it with 28 and 91 See how easy it is, 5 mins a table, see how efficiently you work as a unit to make a tower We are the last group, work out what goes wrong for the first two groups to make us work the best as a team The second team had a leader – telling his team what it was really important to do and to not do, worked better Key is to not get a curve ned to make sure the tower is straight - someone on this We worked out how many cups were on the bottom so we could learn from them Make sure we don’t use two cups on the bottom – one person on this Use the lines on the floor to make sure its safe We were the last group we did the whole tower in the time given The second group did the tower but not in the time, their tower fell quite a lot The first group didn’t complete the challenge, tower kept falling over What skills can you reflect on in the bigger group – deeper than red cups Communication, teamwork, leadership, starting small and then getting bigger, as the groups go through, the first group had a curve in it, stopped doing that but they had a double cup When it got to use we made sure to avoid the curve AND the double cup What are the lessos learnt – think about how leadership is also affected Leadership responsibilities at each stage – see picture of slide

Spaghetti chart – things that go through and how things map in, key thing that the reflections should involve is the leadership aspect, from 28 cups, to 91 cups to coming together as a big group Its really difficult to say where you fit in a group Leadership styles – in one group one person comes in control In other groups its more of a collaboration What kind of leader am i? am I autographic?? Know what kind of leader I am How do I assess myself? 85...
