FIT 5122 Professional Practice Tutorial Student Run Sheet Week 1: Virtual Teams and Eportfolios: Introduction and Housekeeping After your tutor introduces themselves, we’ll cover the protocols for today’s online tutorial and what to do if something goes wrong with technology. We’ll then cover the overall objectives of FIT5122 and how the tutorials will be structured. Discussion Questions Each week, you will be placed into small teams and asked to discuss a specific question relevant to the week’s pre reading. You and your team will then share key insights from your discussion with the class. This week, your tutor will put you into a virtual team where you will work in small breakout groups using a number of zoom’s features including virtual whiteboards. This week’s discussion question is: “Why is Professional Practice important?” Activities Explore the week’s topic in more depth and better understand the importance of the topic in the workplace and how the skills can be applied in practice. This week our focus will be on: 1. The specific challenges facing virtual teams (working online in separate locations) and ways to ensure virtual team meetings are effective; and 2. How to use eportfolios to effectively communicate to clients, managers, team members and other stakeholders. We’ll explore these topics in small virtual teams before sharing insights with the class. Wrap Up To wrap up, we’ll reflect on what you have learnt about virtual teams and eportfolios that will be useful for FIT5120 and the workplace. Your own meeting time (1 hour) Next hour is your own time to get familiar with MAHARA which you will use for your eportfolios for the Industry Experience unit (FIT5120). MAHARA and guidelines for its use can be found on Moodle.
