Going through the fitness assessment could end up being a life changing experience for me. For the most part, I was comfortable with the process as a whole. I have done all of the exercises before, and physical activity is no stranger to me. I was able to complete everything except the sit and reach with ease. One of the more uncomfortable parts was the body fat measuring, as I had to stand in front of at least 4 others as my body fat composition was calculated. It was also uncomfortable to not be able to compete with the more fit and thinner people in the room. I was very surprised with many of the results of the assessment. I was surprised how low I measured up in strength compared to the average male. My fitness level based on the sit-ups was rated fair, which I thought I would rank at a much lower percentile. The routine as a whole was the major factor in being on the workout and diet that I am on now. Seeing how poor my strength was and my above average body fat spurred me to take on a new lifestyle, including less time on the computer, a set sleep schedule, macro nutrient counting, and setting a workout plan. In my body composition profile, I had a sum of 70mm, equating to around 19-23 % body fat composition. This placed me in the above average percentile range for body composition. In the aerobic capacity, my heart rate was clocked at 35 beats per minute after a two and a half minute forestry step test. This equated to 42mL per kilogram minute of air intake. It was calculated that my one and a half mile time would be twelve minutes and one second. The final result rated my fitness level fair. Flexibility was my worst section out of them all. My furthest reach was a meager 14 inches, placing me in the 40th percentile. I feel this is the third highest room for improvement, as I should work on stretching before working out more. My muscular endurance was placed in the 60th percentile after completing a maximum of 30 curl ups, something I am immensely embarrassed about. After working out myself, I found that 30 situ

ups is insanely low, and I consider it my number one area of improvement. My strength category was weak across the board. In chest press, I was rated below average, whereas every other category was rated a low for me. I see this as my number two highest area of improvement. It is pretty easy to become stronger, it just takes more time. Overall, my fitness at the time of the assessment is below average to low. I went into the assessment coming from zero physical activity per day, so I saw myself at my lowest with this procedure. A couple days after the assessment took place, I set out to improve every area measured in the fitness assessment. The easiest section to work on for me is aerobic capacity. I have never enjoyed running, but seeing where I was in fitness level and the potential benefits of running, I now have a craving for running nightly. I train muscular endurance at some point in every workout routine, so it is not a difficult to do. The hardest section that I see to work on is body composition. To reach optimal body composition requires not only dedicated workouts, but a strict and balanced diet. My family has raised me to eat tons of food, so switching to a macrostrict diet has been the hardest for me. Results in this field aren’t visible until months after starting the routine as well, so becoming discouraged is easy. I do agree that physical activity is the cure for many health and wellness issues. While it won’t solve cancer or flu, physical activity places the body in a healthful and strong state that can fight off sickness and other factors that lower one’s health. While it is important to know the benefits of physical activity, I personally am not driven to be physically active due solely to physical activity’s importance. I do know how healthy I can become through fitness, but it is the aesthetic appeal of being fit that spurs me on vs. its health benefits. Being able to work on physical fitness alongside friends who have the same fitness level I do is the main influence on my choice to become active. One of the hardest ways to commit to a physical fitness plan is by

one’s self. Having another person there that is starting from where I am, and is aiming for what I am as well, challenges me to push harder, not to lapse on my old habits, and to look toward my goal....
