Frankie Napolitano G2 9-22-20 Mitosis Online Activity: Onion Root Tip Cells ***Before you begin, MAKE A COPY of this document by going to file, make a copy. This activity will take you through the stages of the cell cycle and mitosis. After reviewing the information on the cell cycle and mitosis, you will be provided the opportunity to identify a cell at the different stages. You will be given 36 different cells and will be identifying all of them based on the image shown. These are images of real onion root tip cells undergoing the different stages of the cell cycle. CLICK ON THIS LINK http://www.biology.arizona.edu/cell_bio/activities/cell_cycle/cell_cycle.html Follow the instructions on the website. When you are finished, count up the number of cells in each stage and record those numbers in the table below under their respective column. Calculate the percentage of the cells by dividing each column by 36. When finished, click on file, download, select PDF, and submit to the dropbox on Crusader Connect. Interphase

Questions: 1. In which phase of the cell cycle do cells spend most of their time? How do you know? Interphase because 56% of the cells were in interphase wich was the highest percentage among the cells (had to have been because it was over 50%). 2. In which phase of cell division do cells spend most of their time? How do you know? Telophase because only 3% of the cells were in telophase and 3% was the lowest percentage of all the data. 3. Which stages did you have the most difficulty distinguishing from the others? I had trouble distinguishing Interphase and Prophase apart from each other. 4. Which stage was the easiest to identify? Metaphase was really easy.

5. During which phase does cytokinesis begin? Anaphase....
