CRITERION A

INTRODUCTION I was only six years old when I got my first drone as my birthday present. Since then I have been very curious about the way drones are used in the modern world to make our lives easier. At first, I was mainly fascinated because they could fly long distances and they were easy to control but later on, I became more interested in the practical uses of the drones. Therefore, I have begun researching about the drones and their usages in different fields such as defence and delivery. The more I found out about the benefits they offer to the human kind, the more I became interested in drones and began thinking about what kind of new developments we can expect from the drone technology in the future. Can they be used as a mode of transportation, can they be used as a delivery tools that people can use to send physical items from one place to another without the need of any cargo companies or can they replace the pilots in the future and used as planes that carry passengers or fight in the wars? All these questions that came up in my mind made me consider the topic of drones as my project. After long hours of research online and discussions with my parents and some experts in the area of technology, I have decided that it is worth to look deeper into the possible future uses of drones. I have tried to look into the ways they are used today to help people with their daily tasks as well and reducing the risk for soldiers in the war fields. For me drones are not only devices that can fly and entertain kids, they have much more to offer to people and I believe we can expect to see them more in our daily lives in the future. Since I enjoy learning about new technologies and drones are centre point of my interest, I had no other choice but to build my personal project on the future of drones. PICKING MY PROJECT For my personal project, I decided to take drones and their possible future uses as my topic as I enjoy learning about developments in drone technology and how they can make people’s lives easier. A movie I watched called “Battle Los Angeles” made me even keener about this technology as in that movie drones were used by the aliens to invade the world. Even though this was only a science fiction movie, still made me consider what people can achieve by investing in drones for the future. Considering my passion and my curiosity

regarding this technology, I decided that picking it, as my personal project will be the best option as it can allow me to feed my curiosity while giving me the chance to introduce this technology to other students. I researched many websites to broaden my viewpoint about the future applications of the drones in our everyday lives and I must admit that I came across some articles that have made me wonder if their ideas can be really possible. For instance, the ideas of using drones as future transportation and agricultural vehicles really drew my attention. I actually found out the drones are already used for agricultural purposes in some areas of the world but the applications are still limited due to current technology. The research I did online made me even keener about choosing future use of drones as my project topic as I have realized that I can learn more while doing this project. Unfortunately, I was limited with the possible experiments I can conduct about the future use of drones, however, after discussing it with my teachers I have decided to experiment on the current uses of the drones and base my project on the research I have conducted online. GLOBAL CONTEXT: Deciding on the global context was one of the most challenging parts of this project after deciding on the topic, as global context is the part that makes the project a sensible one. After searching for list of global contexts, I have decided that “Scientific and Technical Innovation” is the most suitable one for the project as it covers one of the most fundamental technological innovations that has changed the world in many areas especially with its military uses. After discussing it with my teacher, we pointed out the reasons why this global context is the most suitable one for my project. WHAT HELPED ME THE MOST? Thanks to my school lecturers, I have managed to improve my researching and questioning skills, which came very handy during this project as it was mainly based on my online research. I was able to conduct my research my thoroughly and find more relevant information regarding the topic which allowed me to prepare a project that will draw the attention of others while listening. I have always been identified as a creative person and I believe this skill has also helped me throughout the project as my creativity made me think outside the box and since the project is based on future uses of drones, I was able to come up with some revolutionary ideas. The internet was the most effective and useful source for me as my topic was about the future so I needed a source that can provide even the craziest ideas about the future. It is almost impossible to find hard copies of such documentation. I had to

push my limits about how to use internet more effectively as it is not easy to find the relevant ideas and sources while you are bombarded with ideas regarding technological developments and some of these ideas are often irrelevant. Another helpful factor during my project was my family and teacher as they gave me great support throughout the project with their suggestions. Thanks to their guidance, whenever I felt stuck in the project, they helped me look at the situation from a different angle, which allowed me to come up with a unique project. WHAT IS A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT? In my opinion, the most important step you can take to ensure a successful project will be to set an appropriate goal. One of the main reasons for this that without a specific goal it is pointless to expect a project that will provide successful products and outcomes. It is also essential for a successful project to make a positive contribution to not only my learning but also to the students who see the project. The project I am doing should not only provide information found online, it should also provide my own ideas regarding the topic so that people who look at the project can see the authenticity and uniqueness of it. I feel grateful for having the chance of picking my project topic as it allowed me to pick the topic that is most suitable for my personality and interests. I believe this is also a contributing factor for creating a successful project as it is hard to expect a good work from a student on a topic that is not suitable with his or her characteristics. Choosing a topic that fits with my capability, abilities and skills as well as my interests had definitely a positive impact on my progress as I felt more motivated and passionate while working on my project and wanted to create something that will draw the attention of everyone. Besides, studying on something I like also made me keener on searching more thoroughly on the internet so that I can learn more about the topic. For this reason, I paid great attention to the references I have used during my project to ensure I use the most reliable sources that are available online. By doing so, I have managed to establish a reference list that can support my project in several meanings like its reliability, consistency and acceptability.

CRITERION B: TAKING ACTION: I have tried to use different research methods to achieve my goal with my project to get more accurate and effective data on my research topic. I have tried to use the information I gathered

during my research efficiently in the way that fits in with the academic honest and reliability of information. I have also drawn a process map for myself and set weekly targets so that I will not lose track of my main goal about my project. This has also helped me not to get off topic while preparing my project, as I knew exactly what to do in each step. I have used the information I have gathered from the internet and combined with the experiment I have conducted to provide better understanding of my project. I have also tried to use a simple language so that even the people who are not actually interested in the topic can easily follow my project. DUE DATES
