Description

Global English To understand good writing, it has to be clear, consistent and engaging to the reader. It’s no different writing for an audience that doesn’t speak English. Some people might wonder how written English can be adapted for universal understanding. To put it another way, how can we be sure that our message can translate all over the world? This is where the writing style that is now known as global English proves to be a useful tool. First, global English is a style of writing that makes written English easier understood by nonnative speakers. The purpose of the language is that the writing is extremely clear to anyone who reads it. You may ask yourself, what’s the difference between global English and standard English. For instance, standard English or in other words, the English native speakers use every day, is abounding with nuances. Having that said, it’s much more difficult to translate standard English into foreign languages. Unusual and unique grammatical convention such as the passive voice can create confusion speedily in translation. Because of certain rules in standard English it affects the sentence structure, verb tenses, word order and much more. By contrast, in global English the word order is consistent and as predictable as possible. The sentences are short, and the passive voice is avoided. Everything is literal and logical. The writers don’t use any type of metaphors or other type of figurative languages. This is certainly not an extensive list of all of the rules for writing globally. Nor are these hard and fast rules in every case. Yet these are effective ways to make your writing clearer and more suited for non-native English speakers. However global English doesn’t make written English literally translate into other languages. The world language has remarkable similarities, but because of the dissimilar grammar rules that is connected to word order, literal translation is impossible. These rules will not make your writing translate perfectly into any other languages. Secondly, you might ask yourself; will English always be our global language? Who would have presumed a thousand years ago that English would be our global language and not Latin? Some people still speak Latin under certain circumstances as well. However, Latin is no longer the normal education to be fluent in. Having said that, we don’t know what’s going to happen in a thousand years from now. Because a language is only global for one reason and that is the power of the people who speak it. Power is always going to drive a language

because there is no other reason to speak somebody else’s language other then improve your quality of life. English became global for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the power of the British empire, secondly the power of American imperialism and thirdly in the 17th century the power of industrial revolution. Which meant that the language of science and technology became English. In order for English to stay global, the nations that are recognized as the most powerful nations in the world must continue to use English. The business of global English is very recent as well. About 30 years ago nobody talked about global English. The reason why global English is more “popular” now is because countries want to talk to each other. We need to be able to communicate. Suddenly the world is talking to each other, but what kind of English will it be. We speak the English that most often encounter in the world, and that’s American English. The Americans wanted to identify themselves as American and not as British. Therefor American English is now happening globally. In conclusion, the global language is a writing style. Global English is clear and consistent. In addition, it’s easier for the non-native speakers to understand the language. Moreover, the purpose of having English as our global language is for the world to be able to communicate with each other. We can’t be sure that English will stay our global language forever. It’s all about the power and engagement. All things considered, it seems reasonable to have a global language such as American English. The countries all over the world has a nice way to communicate and talk to each other....
