The pH of a solution is a measure of the molar concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution and as such is a measure of the acidity or basicity of the solution. The letters pH stand for "power of hydrogen" and the numerical value is defined as. .. pH = -log10[H+] The soil is acidic & as it goes deep in the dune the soil becomes alkaline due to which towards the shore region the soil is favorable to mesophytic plants .The pH value @ Miramar is 3.7

MOISTURE CONTENT & RAINFALL : The moisture content in the fore dune is much higher compared to mid and hind dune . The maxi, moisture being at 1m depth in fore dune ,the mid dune has moisture till 20 cms in depth and the hind dune has very sparse flora so evaporation is maximum which results less moisture content . The average rainfall in this region is …325 cms……..

W i n d, v e g e t a t i o n, t e m p e r a t u r e: Wind is the one of the most important factor in movement formation and destruction of dune. The wind speed is not constant the irregularities in wind speed result change of dune structure.

Temperature is about 20°C (68°F)@ night and warm days is about 29°C (84°F)

Humidity remains in moderate amounts (88%). The nights are a few degrees cooler further inland, due to altitudinal gradation.

Sea water (Arabian sea---Miramar beach) : The average density is 1.03 g/cm cube , the density is not uniform it vary vertically … denser water below the lighter water .the temperature , the quantity of dissolved salts (salinity), and the pressure to which seawater is exposed determines its density . Temperature ranging from 0-6 degree C, the average temperature is 3.5 degree Celsius ,the water @ depth is cold & warmer towards the surface . Surface temperature is usually between 20-29 degree Celsius . Salinity ---the ratio of weight of dissolved salt to the total weight & expressed as parts per thousand (ppt) . The seawater has a salinity ranging between 34-35 ppy on an average there is 34.7 g of salt in every kg of seawater. Salinity near the surface in the Arabian sea is much greater because evaporation is greater and it receives relatively less river run off. In the ocean , the pressure Increased by 1 atmosphere for 10 increase in depth .i.e. the pressure at the bottom of ocean of an average depth of 3700m will be 370 atmosphere

WIND WAVES: The undulation caused by action of wind on the ocean surface is known as wind waves & which is visible to anyone who watches the water from the shore or traveling in the ship . Surface gravity waves are the most common waves .. In which the Earth ‗s gravity pulls the water particles back to equilibrium ,once the wind disturb the ocean surface and perturbs it from equilibrium by injecting kinetic energy into the water. Wind waves occur in water that is deeper than half their wavelength , hence they are called as deep water waves. The momentum gained by the water decays with depth , and there is no motion due to these waves in the deeper water. The waves moves @ the speed of 1-100 m/s, their wavelength ranges from 1-1000 m and their period ranges from second to minutes

TIDES: Tides is another aspect of the restless ocean visible to a observer on a beach . Tides are surface gravity waves : they are shallow water waves , so called because they occur in water that is shallower than the half the wavelength . the speed of shallow water wave is given by square root of (gH).. Where g is about 3700m deep , these wave have a speed of 700km/hr. The shallow water waves momentum does not decay with depth and there is motion even @ the bottom .

Generation of near shore rip currents: The wave action near the shore generate near shore currents . These water movement which can be long shore or offshore , are fundamental to the movement of the beach material . The intensity of currents is increased in monsoon which creates strong currents directed towards the sea, perpendicular to shore are called as rip current , which are dangerous … which can be avoided by cathodic protection system or the current are supplied to an anode bed .

E l e m e n t s I n s e a w a t e r: Most elements in the sea water came from chemical weathering of minerals in the earth‘s crust and other elements came from the atmosphere. The crust is made up mostly of silicates and aluminosilicates. In weathering ,acidic rainwater percolates through the soil and underlying rocks and acts on metal silicates and carbonates to dissolve them .the dissolved ions are ultimately washed into the sea.

At the air sea interface , the atmospheric gases ( nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide) enter the seawater in which they dissolve the atmosphere also contain small amount of sulfuric and nitric acids. The presence of fluoride , chloride, bromide, sulfate and borate ions which are present in insignificant level in the earths crust .the presence of these elements represent s the salinity which vary from place to place .
