Section A1 Asking myself “why” I am going back to school at a time like this honestly makes me laugh out loud. Life is crazy! Why would I add more stress in my life? I am a full time teacher, a wife, a mom of 3 and one that is dealing with a lot of ‘life’ thrown at her right now. So why pursue a master’s degree at WGU now? My answer is, why not? I am strong and capable and have conquered hard things in the past to reach my goals. I want to prove to myself and others that I can conquer another challenging season of life to reach my goal. I have desired to obtain my Master’s degree for many years. I have always found plenty of reasons to push off the idea of going back to school but when I came across WGU and discovered its unique program my interest peaked! I loved hearing others similar stories about how they found time to reach their goal of completing a master’s program while being insanely busy. Knowing I have the support of my family, friends, and coworkers, gives me motivation to push onward and begin this new exciting but nerve racking chapter in finally reaching my goal of obtaining a Master’s Degree.

Section A2 My family is so supportive of me going back to school and willing to help out in any way needed. When I finally graduate with my master’s degree, it will be a celebration not only for me, but also for my family who stepped up when I needed it the most. My career will also have an impact from my completion of this program. My students will have a teacher who is more knowledgeable in curriculum and instruction as well as more confident in her teaching ability. I feel I will be able to lead and impact others around me to be successful as well.

Section B1

I am seeking a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction. This degree will give me the deeper knowledge of instruction techniques to better teach my students and details in creating a standard driven curriculum. The program will consist of ten total classes with the last course being a research based capstone.

Section B2 A Masters in Curriculum and Instruction consists of 9 required courses that will include specifics in professional teaching standards, curriculum and instruction, and assessment. I will need to demonstrate my competence in each course before continuing. In conclusion I will need to do a research based capstone project which will utilize everything studied and learned throughout the courses. These requirements will give me a deeper understanding and knowledge of curriculum and instruction that will allow my students and coworkers to be impacted as well.

Section C1 C1-A Knowing I have a knowledgeable and experienced mentor available for guidance and encouragement when I need it is so helpful! I know that I will have questions and need assistance and having someone I can call or email when needed really lessens the stress of beginning this journey. I have already had a great experience with my enrollment counselor and even anytime I have called the college for help.

C1-B One scenario I might reach out to the instructor is for clarification on an assignment or project. I know that I could reach out to clarify a question being asked rather than assume what is being asked and answer it incorrectly to what the instructor is looking for which will save me time in completing the course.

Section C2 Keeping myself focused on my end goal is key to me being successful. I know that this will be challenging and there are going to be times I feel discouraged. I know that if I keep a positive attitude and work little by little I am capable of reaching my goal.

Section D

Part 1: I currently plan to study during my lunch break at work, Saturday mornings, and most evenings after the hustle and bustle of dinner, sports, and bedtime for my kids. Part 2:
