METHOD: THE GRAMMAR-TRANSLATION METHOD
When, where & who this method began to be used after the Industrial Revolution. It is not really known who the creator of this method was. This method appears in Europe.
Principles/current the currents of the method are linguistic and pedagogical. The principles of the method are: -The students have the correct answer always. -The teacher is the authority. -Traditional. -Classical literature.
What for? the aim was that students would become more familiar with the grammar of their native language and that this familiarity would help them speak and write their native language better.
Goal of the teacher the teacher´s goal is that his students be able to read literature written in the target language. The students need to learn about the rules of grammar and vocabulary. The teacher was at the centre of everything.
Role of the teacher The roles are very traditional. The teacher is the authority in the classroom.
Characteristics of the teaching learning process students are taught to translate from one language into another. Student study grammar deductively and memorize target language vocabulary.
Student-teacher interactions /student-student interaction most of the interaction in the classroom is from the teacher to the students.
