Interactive Skills WiSe 17/18 ● Session 1: Introduction Your presentations: News of the Week Each of our sessions will start with a section called News of the Week. These sections will consist of three five-minute-presentations on current affairs which will each be followed up with a quick feedback by the group and a five-minute-discussion on the respective topic. Hereby we will get updated on what’s happening in the world and – most importantly – practice interactive skills.

Your task: 

Choose a newspaper and decide on one of the feature articles. (Contact me in case you hit a paywall before finding a suitable article.)



Attention – not all of the newspapers are serious, reputable sources! Read critically!



Research the topic thoroughly, using additional sources.



Prepare a five-minute-presentation.



Prepare two questions and guide the discussion on your topic.



Send me an outline of your presentation by Monday.



Be an active member of the audience, when it’s not you turn to give a presentation. Pay attention, ask questions, and give productive feedback.

Content of your presentation 

Name the newspaper you are working with and the author of your article. (2 sentences tops!)



Explain potentially unfamiliar concepts to the group.



Summarize the content of your article.



Filter out the facts and describe how the author of the article presents them....
