HBS1HBASUBJECTDESCRIPTION Inthissubjectstudentswillbeintroducedtotheanatomicalorganisationofthebodyandthebasics ofcellstructureandfunction.Thefundamentalsofthenervousandendocrinesystemswillthenbe exploredinthecontextofmechanismsofphysiologicalcontrol.Thisinformationwillprovidethe foundationforthestudyofthemajororgansystemsofthebodywhichincludetherespiratory, cardiovascular,renal,digestive,reproductivesystemsandmetabolism.Underpinningthesestudies willbetheconceptofhomeostasisandhowitismaintainedbyintegrationoforgansystem functions. BACKGROUNDANDRATIONALEFORTHESUBJECT Thissubjectaimstodescribethephysiologyandfunctionalanatomyofmostorgansystemsofthe body,explaininghowstructureandfunctionarerelated.Thissubjectservesasafoundationforany laterstudiesinphysiology,neurophysiology,pathology,pharmacologyandclinical/professional studies.Thestudyoftheconceptofhomeostasiswillintroducetheideathattherearenormal rangesforphysiologicalvariablesthatarecompatiblewithhealth.
