Motor - Palpate TMJ and messeter while clenching teeth - Attempt to open jaw Sensory - Cotton wisp on three areas of face - Ophthalmic, maxillar, mandibular +/- Corneal reflex - Cotton ball on cornea

Motor - Smile, frown, puff cheeks, lift eyebrows, show teeth - Close eyelids against resistance Sensory - +/- tastes - Lemon juice Hearing acuity - Whisper test - Weber test (Only do if they cant hear you on whisper test). Put tuning fork on middle of head and you should hear it in both ears because of cranial nerve #8. - Whatever side you hear the vibration more might signify a blockage like wax or something in the ear canal, or conductive hearing loss - Rinne test (Only do if they cant hear you on whisper test)

IX & X - Motor - Uvula midline and mobile - Tonsillar pillars medial and mobile - Gag reflex - Sensory - Taste on posterior tongue - Not easily tested

XI -

Sternomastoid and trapezius muscle strength

Clear speech - Stick out tongue - “Light tight dynamite”
