Description

Heneral Luna Introduction: Did you know that Antonio Luna was an excellent writer? And did you know that he was a fencing teacher, expert in martial arts and marksmanship? And with a very good luck a sack of coins saved him from death? Heneral Luna is a Filipino historical film that portrays the leadership of Antonio Luna within the Philippine Revolutionary Army during the FilipinoAmerican war. The film was directed by Jerrold Tarog and was Produced by Fernando Ortigas on September 9, 2015 and was starred by the famous John Arcilla, Joem Bascon and Epy Quizon. The movie itself can suffice information about Antonio Luna however the second sequel is about Gregorio Del Pilar titled “Goyo Batang Heneral” Description of the Plot: -The Americans are not their opponent but themselves and their countrymen There was a writer named Joven who interviewed General Antonio Luna for their publication of their newspaper. General Antonio Luna said that his brother Juan Luna designed their army uniform and he paid for that. He recalled a time when they had a meeting with Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini and the whole cabinet about the Americans and the Spaniards they debated if the Americans were allies or not. Then Antonio Luna asked to attack or to strike the Americans while their troops is yet low on numbers. And they did find out that Americans has taken over Manila. That tells that war is likely to happen. Luna and others have take off against Americans and later on the Americans retreated giving the Filipinos a victory. After the

victory, Luna assembled thousands of soldiers within 3 days and declared that all who refuse to follow shall be executed and then secured a train for their soldiers. The war continues but after the war General Luna’s presence was requested at the President’s Headquarters at Cabanatuan therefore, he traveled to Cabanatuan and only Buencamino is in the headquarters they argued and a gunshot was heard outside and startled General Luna when he asked “Sinong tangang nagpaputok ng baril” no one answered and later on assassinated by Cpt Janolino and his men. The Americans blamed Aguinaldo for the death of General Luna but Aguinaldo said General Luna sent a telegram that he will arrive in Cabanatuan. As Aguinaldo said he is in Bulacan and Pampanga. First area of focus (Historical Events): -Does the movie depict the history? With every event in the film the places, the soldiers, the characters and everything in the film all I can say is that it successfully adapted the history and make it a film what differs is just the actors of course. The movie Heneral Luna portrays successfully the Filipino History about Filipino-American War. Second area of focus (Costumes): -Did they make an effort in props/costumes? Yes, what they wore on the Filipino American war was like in the film they did a great job on taking every detail besides it was an 80 million pesos budget. They have different kinds of costume and they take it on another level as it really resembles the history.

Third area of focus (Setting/Geographic features): -What kind of setting or geographic features does the history have compared to the film was it comparable? To this focus I don’t really know much about geographic features but I guess they made an awesome job on showing it to the viewers like me it made it realistic especially the battlefield and the headquarters. On the other focus the setting one thing is for sure that it is really set in the Philippine-American war 1899-1902 the guns the place and their costumes the props really synced together to have a history looking setting. Evaluation of the film: -Does the film take interests in this generation does it intrigue others? The strength of the movie was the actors and the props they did a really great job in that even those extra characters they did a great acting too and they put some comedy for the film to not get boring to the viewers and it even reached internationally however its weakness was it was slow paced but nonetheless it was a really awesome film no wonder it is the highest grossing Filipino film in historical. One of the actors that was convincing was John Arcilla, Arron Villaflor, Epy Quizon those three were the best in acting in the film especially John Arcilla as Antonio Luna fits his character so well even on how he delivers his words and languages was superb. I find one adequate actor and that was Mon Confiado as Emilio Aguinaldo as he was out of character, he speaks too light. The place and plot that was too slow was before the war and the war was too fast. The story was built to a logical climax as the end was the death of Heneral Luna he was assassinated and Aguinaldo being blamed and Aguinaldo denied it but it did hold the viewer’s interest uniformly. If the film was done many years ago it would still be good but it

will be at the cost of quality because if it hadn’t been done today then it won’t have the same realism in the costume and props to it. The film would have been better if they added more effects on little details blood and setting effects. I recommend this film to another student not just for entertainment but its history and he/she could learn a few things too especially when they’re not familiar with Heneral Luna. Conclusion: -The main points was the film was awesome and it is intended for everyone to know history as they portray history in an easy way and the film is really immerse its like you put yourself in the timeline because of the good acting and portrayal and so much more. -As the Highest Grossing Filipino historical film of all time Heneral Luna was indeed the best and the viewers will have the benefit of ease in learning history by watching the film as they did put a lot of effort in this film -What if the History isn’t written instead it was filmed? Would you be binge watching historical films?...
