Description

HIP SPICA WRAP Elastic Wrap Tip: stretch the wrap 1/2 to 1/3 of its total elastic capability prior to application. Overlap each turn of the wrap by at least one-half of the previous underlying strip.  Have the athlete place the hip in an internally rotated position, (adductor injury) with a lift under the heel, allowing the knee to flex slightly. Place the body weight on the opposite leg.  Starting on the anterior thigh, dog ear the elastic wrap, folding it to lock over itself into place. Place the pull of the wrap in an internal direction.  The wrap continues to spiral up the thigh to cover the greater trochanter, iliac crest and lower abdominals and on up around the waist to complete the spica.  Come back down across the gluteals and back across the greater trochanter, ending back on the thigh.  Reinforce the wrap with elastic tape, which repeats the same pattern. Dog ear your tape tab at the end. GRADING CRITERIA: (10 POINTS) Wrap stretched properly for application Hip placed in an internally rotated position Heel lift placed under heel, weight placed on opposite leg Proper dog ear at beginning of wrap Proper overlap and spiraling throughout the wrap Proper anatomical application Proper reinforcement with elastic tape Dog ear tape tab...
