Taylor, Q.P. (2002, July 1). Persuasion and Publius: Rhetorical Readings of The Federalist Papers. Political Science Reviewer, 31, 237-282.

Identify author and describe potential biases.

Dr. Quentin Taylor is a Political Science Professor from Rogers State University. Dr. Taylor has earned his master’s in history and his doctorate in political science, from University of MissouriColumbia. Since 2001, he was teaching at Rogers States University. While being a professor in political science it seems that he is biased towards the government on society.

Identify thesis and arguments.

Dr. Taylor said that, even with much debate over the ratification with the U.S. Constitution, The Federalist Papers were held in high regard and were “almost instantly recognized as work of great and even unprecedented merit”. Dr. Taylor talked about the documents popularity and fame grew back in the 1790’s, upon finding out the essays written amongst three men who played a big part in the construction and the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. These works have been known to be cited by the U.S. Supreme Court for many cases. He also stated the word infamy by saying it gained great praise oversea in Great Britain. Which a news article was printed in an Edinburgh that it showed a “profundity of research and an understanding which would have honor to the best illustrious statesman of modern times”. This seriousness over these documents produced by a brand new ford Nation helped paint the way for having unprecedented merit.

What primary sources did the source rely on?

My Primary sources are “The Federalist Papers” themselves, journal articles, and even correspondence between the writers themselves.

Is the source reliable and convincing? Why or why not?

These sources are convincing and reliable because these are real documents showing the persuasion of these papers had with the Republicanism, the writer does not seem to show any type of bias in his work itself. It is convincing because it is either the reference and paper documents used for the written or paper texts show by the scholars about this papers effect on the government. 1

How does the source relate to your project topic? How does it add to what you already know about the topic?

These sources have helped me understand what the Founding Fathers of the U.S. Constitution were trying to convey when they were drafting it. Their deep and clear understanding of the government and Republicanism vast more than what I was expecting it to be from a revolting group of colonists. They were even getting some great acclaim from the government/country in which they left and revolted from.
