[email protected] Phone: 702-817-3231 (You may text or call) Required Text Foner, Eric. Give Me Liberty!: An American Story, Volume Two, FIFTH Edition. (New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 2015). Paper or Digital version is acceptable.  You may use other versions of the book. The chapters have the same information in them, however, the module content is different. Study Space Your textbook comes with an online component that is extremely helpful. You can access outlines, videos, self-quizzes, flashcards etc.  Go to: www.wwnorton.com  Click on college textbooks tab, then on college courses, choose American History from the left, Choose Give Me Liberty, then click Student Study Space on the right. Choose a Chapter (at the top of the page). Course Objective  This course provides a survey outline of American History from the Reconstruction period to present day. The Nevada Constitution is one of the primary sources of this course. Please familiarize yourselves with this document. We will trace the history of the United States after the Civil War through the 21st century through a historical, political, economic and social analysis.  This course will achieve this through a series of quizzes, discussion questions, essays and exams.  You must pass the NV Constitution quiz to pass the class. Course Format/Requirements/Expectations  This is a fully online, self-paced course.  All due dates are VERY CLEAR on each assignment and the course home page.  This course is a self-motivated class, which means that you will be responsible for following all directions, asking questions when you are unclear as to what to do and keeping track of your assignments. It will be your job to maintain contact with me and to treat your fellow classmates with respect. o A general schedule to follow is reading 1-2 chapters and module information a week. You are able to proceed at your own pace except for discussion and exam due dates. Additionally, you can move forward as quickly as you want in this course as all assignments are open from the beginning of the semester.



All assignments are graded on an individual basis as there are no group activities. You assume all personal responsibility for your scheduling your time appropriately. If you need assistance in CANVAS, please direct your questions and issues to Student Computing Services.

You may call or text my cell number 702-817-3231 (not after 8pm) if you have questions that are not addressed in the course syllabus, however, please be courteous and do not abuse the number. Re-read your syllabus, all assignments and instructions are noted throughout the course. Your grade is percentage-based on the following assignments: DISCUSSIONS 30% QUIZZES 20% MIDTERM PAPER 25% FINAL EXAM PAPER 25% ________________________________ TOTAL 100% DISCUSSIONS The first discussion is an introduction and the rest are based on topics from your textbook. Discussion are posted at the start of the semester and have an assigned due date. The date always falls on a Tuesday at 5pm. All due dates are clearly marked on discussions.

LECTURES The lectures and course content are located under the MODULE section. Each section is divided into the appropriate chapter. You will find all the information you need to answer quizzes, discussions, or papers in your textbook or the MODULE section of Canvas.

QUIZZES All quizzes are due by the end of the semester, December 13th EXCEPT for the Nevada Constitution Quiz. Quizzes are all open-book and timed (60 minutes). There are 5 quizzes. You have ONE try per quiz except for the Nevada Constitution Quiz which will give you TWO efforts to pass. Each quiz will cover a variety of chapters; check your quiz section for the chapters. Course required quiz: Nevada Constitution Quiz (YOU MUST pass with of 60% or higher to pass the course. MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAM PAPERS Papers are based on questions that cover different historical facts. PLEASE READ ALL PAPER INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY. Paper One Due Date (Mid-Term): Paper Two Due Date (Final Exam):

FRIDAY, October 18th at 5pm. FRIDAY, December 13th at 5pm.

Plagiarism Any student’s assignments or papers that match another student’s, uses outside sources other than posted lecture notes or textbook are considered plagiarism. The student’s work will be flagged and subject to the CSN Student Conduct Code.
