Karisma King March 2019 HIV/AIDS
In 2012 documentary “United in Anger” investigates activist grassroot campaign called “ACT UP”. This group was created in order to advocate for people living with HIV to acquire better treatment and push for more awareness to the public and politicians. The group ACT UP accomplished many actions that helped bring recognition to the deadly virus HIV/AIDS. One action that took place was the St Patrick demonstration. In December 1989 , five thousand people protested the Roman Catholic. The event took place at St. Patrick's against Cardinal John O'Connor and the Catholic Archdiocese This was an attempt to distribute safe sex materials such as condoms and information on HIV/AIDS. Because of the church interference, many of the information where not being dispensed in schools. This protest was an epic attempt in a step forward to teach youth about sex education and protection. I personally feel that was a great step to take on the board of ed and the church. About 40,000 people in America have died from the AIDS virus. Young people where at greater risks of having unprotected sex and ACT UP advocated and stood up for that cause. This groups action is very inspirational....
