As we learn more about HIV/AIDS, we investigate fear and confusion surrounded by the virus. After watching “Rise of the Killer virus”, many conspiracy theories were spread around through rumors. The search for and where the virus originated from is explored by a group of scientists. After watching the film, I feel as though 3 main things are to blame for HIV. Drik and his team searched for old persevered samples. Because of the lack of funds in the country and in hospitals through Kinshasa, Congo. Many samples where melted down and many old records were flooded/contaminated in basements. This would be one of the main reasons why finding HIV/AIDS origins are difficult. This is also proof that HIV wreaked havoc before anyone noticed as early as 1963. Another factor to consider would be the ignorance of politicians and lack of concern when the virus hit America. From the blame of homosexuals, other groups such as heroin users, Hattians and hemophiliacs. , Over the years famous people were also infected such as rock Hudson who died of AIDS. In 1992 Magic Johnson became the new face of HIV. This proves that anyone could be infected by the virus. What upsets me is that it took a while for politicians to take things seriously. America seems to blame every other group instead of understanding that the same finding where happening in other countries such as Belgium....
