Description

Purpose: To test how different fertilizers affect the growth of plants.

Variables and controls: Independent variable: The fertilizers Dependent variable: The growth of the plant Controlled variables: sun, pots, water, soil

Hypothesis: The 24-8-16 fertilizer will cause the cress plant to grow the fastest over the two other fertilizers and the cress plant that has no fertilizer.

Materials: Biodegradable plant pots, 14-0-0 fertilizer, 10-10-10 fertilizer, 24-8-16 fertilizer, topsoil with no fertilizer. Water, ruler, and cress seeds.

Procedure: 1) Filled biodegradable pots with the same amount of topsoil which had no fertilizer.

2) Labeled one pot 14-0-0, one pot 10-10-10, one pot 24-8-16, and one pot control.

3) Put 7 cress seeds into each pot buries 0.5- 1 cm deep.

4) After germination start giving each pot its respective fertilizer daily.

5) Record data of plant growth every day.

Unwanted variables: The plants not getting enough sunlight. I controlled this by putting in front of a window that gets a lot of sunlight.

Conclusion: My hypothesis was the 24-8-16 fertilizer will cause the cress plant to grow the fastest over the two other fertilizers and the cress plant that has no fertilizer. My experiment did not support my hypothesis. There is no big difference the 10-10-10 fertilizer, 14-0-0 fertilizer, and using no fertilizer. The net difference ate the end was only 2 centimeters. If there was one of these that were 6+ centimeters higher than the other that were show that one of these are better than the other but since there is not they are almost the same....
