Houston Food Bank Assignment
3/28/2019
Houston Food Bank 2 During the volunteer day on March 23, 2019, there were a huge turnout of volunteers from different organizations. This was my first time volunteering and I was very impressed with how team works together and gets all the volunteers in place and on the job. Volunteers were grouped and assigned to different program in the facility. The staff do explain the procedures and what will be done and how. My assignment was in the Back Pack area, to fill up a bag of nutrition snacks to be distributed for many children in school during the school year, and also during weekends and holiday. The Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy program works to fill the gap by providing nutritious, childfriendly food for school children to take home over the weekend. Through the Backpack Buddy program, the HFB, works in partnership with participating schools, and other community partners, to ensure that the food sack are distributed to children every Friday during the school year.
