Language Do not mention the title of either text, the creators of the texts or the characters. This is a specific statement about the topic you are going to discuss.

SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES

SETTING

This is certainly the case in Kazan’s film ‘on the Waterfront’ which depicts the harsh conditions of the Hoboken waterfront in the 1950s and Lee’s novel ‘To kill a Mockingbird’ set in 1930s in a small town in the American south.

TS Both texts illustrate that when injustice is present in a society, individuals can act in accordance with their conscience. TS2 Nevertheless they can also be restricted by the attitudes and values of the dominant culture. TS 3: The influence of outsiders who question the social norms of that society, however cannot be underestimated when exploring why characters act the way they do. Despite their different social status, Atticus and Terry are restricted by the ingrained culture of the society in which they live, however they are both driven to act in response to their conscience and to the injustices they encounter. While outsiders such as Edie and Fr Barry and Jem and Scout have an influence on the major characters, Terry is directly challenged by them whereas, Atticus is motivated by his children’s ethical development....
