1. Describe the work in detail. Consider the following: a. Where did you see the work? The Eleanor Kirkpatrick Memorial is located within the Oklahoma City Art Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. b. What elements or characteristics stand out to you? Some elements that stand out to me within this work are the little angels hidden within the piece that can be seen if you look closely. I also admire the use of Chihuly to make this piece.

2. Describe the purpose of the work. Consider the following: a. What do you think the creator intended to express? I believe that the creator was trying to express Eleanor’s love for art since she is the founder of the Oklahoma City Art Museum, the angels may represent Eleanor’s passing and how heaven had gained an angel. b. Were they successful? After reviewing this memorial art piece, I believe that the creator was successful in what they were trying to accomplish.

3. Use the work to explore how acts of creative expression impact and are impacted by the people and situations that surround them. Consider the following: a. What contributions does the work selected make to continuing a dialogue about that culture and the importance of its works? The memorial contributes colorful glass in abstract shapes giving it a timeless appearance, showing the type of vibrant artwork that was popular during this time.

4. State questions you have after thinking deeply about this work. What more do you want to know regarding the following? a. The relationship between culture and expression: What is the relationship between the possible intent of the creator and your own interpretation of its meaning? The relationship between the possible intent of the creator and my own interpretation are quite similar. At first glance I believed that the creator was trying to show how he viewed life to be vibrant and colorful while he was intending t memorialize a human with great appreciation for art. b. Explain how your values have shaped and are shaped by your expression and that of others. This piece of art has made me want to stop and appreciate things more.

5. Explain how you would approach answering these questions: a. What would you study about this work that might address the questions you stated? I would do more research on the creator and any information on this piece they did to find out their exact intentions for his piece. b. Where would you find information to address the questions? I could find this information in old articles about the memorial of the museum.

Next, draw conclusions about how the work you selected relates to the humanities: This work relates to the humanities because it shows what kind of art

was popular during this time and how people from that time reacted to and appreciated it.

6. Explain why you believe humans have a need to express themselves through created works of cultural and historical significance. a. Describe a culture shift or event related to the work you selected. This could be a cultural shift that influenced the creation of the work, or it could be a cultural shift that came about because of it. A cultural shift would come after the piece had been created, the creation of this piece gave viewers more appreciation for art seeing the meaning of the piece. b. Explain how a concept or resource you encountered in this course has informed

your explanation. Be sure to cite any sources used. The video “Who Decides What Art Means?” in module 4 has informed my explanation by describing how everyone’s interpretation of something can be different. After studying this work I believe the relationship between the culture and human creative expression is the need to remember feelings and major events.

Be sure to be specific about the issues you are addressing. a. Use the insights you gained from studying the work you selected to explain how creative expression can impact today’s issues. Creative expression can impact today’s issues because it gives people something to display to represent their support in that subject. b. Explain how a person or concept encountered in your study of the humanities has informed your explanation. Be sure to cite any sources used. Something that has informed my explanation would be positive graffiti that is on buildings in local areas representing their feelings on certain topics or just sending a positive message....
