I think everyone has made some kinds of mistakes in their life. Some mistakes can be compensated, and some could not. I am grateful that Stony Brook University shows tolerance for students who have committed academic dishonesty and gives us the second chance to learn the importance of academic integrity and helps us to maintain a good academic record in the future. By attending the zoom meetings and completing different assignments, I have a better understanding about what kind of students I am and what are my disadvantages. I think one of the most precious things I learned from taking the Q course is that I realize that some of our bad habits will lead to very bad consequences. For example, sometimes, we are indifferent about making correct and good citations and we just simply paraphrase the quote from the internet or certain materials. It is a form of plagiarism, but many of us do not know about it. Secondly, procrastination is another very bad characteristics many students have which may lead to academic dishonesty. I have known that many students could not make proper arrangement about their homework assignments or coming quiz and exams. Therefore, they may think of some “shortcut” to maintain academic success. For example, some may think of cheating in the exam, some may think of copying the answers for the homework assignment from the internet and some may seek helps from their classmates to share answers. In general, the Q course helped me understand what are academic integrity, the importance of academic integrity, what are the potential reasons could cause academic integrity and what are the consequences of academic integrity. I also realize that what are some good habbits we must have or we should have to achieve academic integrity. All the knowledge and information I

access from this class may ensure my academic success for the future. I have to say that everything I have learned from this course will definitely help me to maintain academic integrity. For example, knowing how to make proper citation is one of the most efficient way to maintain academic integrity since we could avoid using others’ works without giving proper credit. Also, learning how to properly manage the time will prevent us from procrastination and it will motivate us to work towards our goals. Also, it is also interesting to know that make regular self assessment will also help us to maintain academic integrity. To be more specific, I think by learning the importance of the academic integrity, it makes me more aware of this issue in college and I was convinced that the foundation of achieving academic success is to maintain academic integrity. Only if the student are honest, the student could overcome the difficulties they encounter in schools and in the future workplace. By working hard and pushing us towards the goals we set, we will know that using others’ works and copy from others are not the shortcut, instead, it is a extremely bad idea which would make us fail in our lives once again. In conclusion, I have to say that it is wonderful and very considerate for Stony Brook University to provide us the opportunity to make up our mistakes and make us know the ways to achieve academic success and avoid plagiarism. By knowing how to manage our time, by assessing ourselves from time to time and by being honest, I believe that I will no longer make the similar mistake as before and I will be more close to achieve my academic success.
