1. Describe how the cognitive and emotional abilities mentioned in this case are associated with different aspects of job performance. IDEO deals with different types of individuals who are in need of certain products. When you’re an employee working for IDEO, an important skill you must have is the ability to be able to communicate with customers in the right manner so you show good representation of the company. You have to be able to solve the toughest problem in the simplest manner because you will be dealing with different emotions everyday. 2. Consider the abilities required by IDEO, and explain why you would, or would not, fit the job well. I believe that I would fit the job well due to the fact that I enjoy interacting with certain customers and I feel like I could relate to most. Having the proper communication skills from experience would help me in this company to make sure the customer would always be satisfied and to have self control of my emotions at all times. Also, being reasonable and having quantitative ability is also imperative. Going through multiple situations in everyday life builds more experiences in these areas that would make me fit for the job. 3. Consider the formal definition of ability, and discuss whether the informal practices and traditions of IDEO really enhance emotional ability. What additional practices could IDEO use to enhance the emotional ability of its employees? The formal definition of ability is having relatively stable capabilities that people have to perform a range of different but related activities. Emotional ability allows employees to interact with customers in a way that gives them a better understanding of what customers want.

I believe it does enhance emotional ability depending on the type of personality that person has. For example, an extrovert would be on board for hands on and loud approaches while an introvert would probably just want one on one discrete interactions....
