Information Management and Knowledge Management (IMKM)

Exercise 8 Tools and Application of Knowledge Management TUM Chair for Information Systems © Prof. Dr. H. Krcmar

Learning Objectives from Exercises • Critically reflect on the lecture content • Analyze cases based on the given topic, but go beyond – How does it relate to other topics in IMKM and other lectures? – How does it correspond or contradict what you think / know / observe?

• Don‘t look for the answers in the cases, but try to understand and interpret the cases – In research papers every sentence has a purpose (at least should have), so if there is a sentence you stumble upon – think about it – Papers focus on specific aspects, but there is a lot more information not presented in the paper

à Exam questions will test this ability 2

Group 23 (Zhang) & Group 33 (Demirkan) – Assessment of Grapevine • Following Carlile’s elaborations on the “relative complexity of a boundary” (i.e. part 2) affecting innovation within the firm, has Grapevine the capability to foster innovation within PMC? 2

• •

What are the differences/similarities between PMC and Beta Motors regarding boundaries and knowledge flow? 1 How does Grapevine handle “difference, dependence and novelty” of knowledge?
