Description

In Class Precis

The author Michael Abrams (an independent writer) who discusses the current problem in 3D printing and its possible solution through the article titled ‘Speeding Up 3D Printing by a Lot’ (asme.org, Feb 22, 2018) explaining the solution to reduce the processing time of 3D Printers that could redefine the current manufacturing process and change the purpose of 3D printing. Abrams points out about the time 3D printers take in average to print simple designs to introduce a research done my Maxim Shusteff, an engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory whose team found out a new process named volumetric printing which uses same phenomenon of light but with different perspective completing the entire process of printing at one step using multiple laser beams throwing into a vat of photosensitive liquid transverse polymer which would harden the intersection of laser beam at a certain point resulting in a brighter reflecting light. The author wants the reader to rethink the use of same phenomenon light in 3D printers but in a different manner in order to convert the use of 3D printers from prototyping feature to manufacturing. The targeted audience are young manufacturing and mechanical engineers to research on new prospect of manufacturing large items in seconds, as the article uses lots of technical terms related to the field and the manufacturing companies to fund the researches being conducted as the writer clearly states the need of development over the research to revolutionize prototyping realm into direct producing....
