1. A. Place the data in an ordered array. (48, 51, 52, 53, 53, 53, 56, 58, 59, 59, 60, 60, 61, 63, 64, 64, 64, 65, 66, 66, 66, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 70, 71, 71, 71, 72, 75, 75, 76, 77, 78, 80, 80, 81, 81, 81, 83, 83, 83, 83, 89, 89, 92, 95)

48 60 66 72 81

51 60 66 75 83

52 61 67 75 83

53 63 68 76 83

53 64 69 77 83

53 64 70 78 89

56 64 70 80 89

58 65 71 80 92

B. Which of the two displays seem to provide more information? Discuss. The stem and leaf display provides a much more organized view of the data compared to the ordered array in a much simpler style. The stem and leaf display gives you an insight where the scores tend to cluster, giving you immediate input of the frequency of the data and ready access to the mode. It can also be used to visualize the mean and median to an extent. Stem and leaf display is ideal when you want to find out how spread out a data is. The ordered array arranges its data in an order/ranking, it is visually not as effective as the steam and leaf display nor as efficient. However it is very simple and easy to use and maybe very ideal for smaller data sets and for plotting the median of the data set. C. Where do the scores tend to cluster? The scores tend to cluster around the 60-69 bracket with 15/50 or 30% of the scores are around this bracket. Then most of the data are distributed evenly in the middle brackets around the 70s and 80’s then to the 50’s range.

D. Do you think these 50 final examination scores are representative or larger population of scores? Explain. It can be, but sample size depends on the size of the population. If the sample size of 50 is derived from a certain number of population then the 50 final examination scores can be called “representative or larger population of scores” but if the quantity of “50” was acquired randomly then it might not be adequate to represent the whole population.

2. A. Develop the ordered array. (36.1,36.1, 36.4, 36.4, 36.4, 36.4, 36.5, 36.5, 36.7, 36.7, 36.7, 36.8, 36.8, 36.8, 36.8, 37,37, 37, 37.2, 37.4, 37.9, 38, 38, 38.1, 39, 39, 39.7, 40) 36.1 36.8 38

D. Is the concentration of values similar for all three types of presentation?

36.7 37.9

The concentration of values is different for the three types of presentation. The ordered array presents raw data that is ordered ascendingly which presents no concentration of values at all, the stem and leaf display organizes data into groups or sets which concentrates values into these groups or sets, while the frequency distribution provides a summary of the values compacting it in a single table, making the values more concentrated. 3.
