Description

QUT's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) service allows staff and students to remotely access virtual desktops to use specialised software from home, without installing the software on their personal computers. You will be able to access the Reckon software on your Mac or on your windows computer using Vmware at home (Note: alternatively you can still install Reckon directly to a windows based computer using the link on Blackboard/Assessment/Assessment 1). To access VMware at home, the QUT VPN will first need to be installed and connected. Installing QUT VPN (Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client): Go to https://sas.qut.edu.au/ Enter your QUT login credentials Click the blue button to download the installer Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen prompts to install Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Open Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Enter sas.qut.edu.au into the Ready to connect field Click Connect Enter your QUT username and password If you have any issues, please refer to QUT Article # 15560 : How do I connect to the QUT Secure Access Service (SAS-VPN) on my computer? If this article does not resolve your issue please contact the IT helpdesk, 3138 4000. Installing the VMware Horizon Client: Go to https://vdi.qut.edu.au/ - You will need the VPN connected to access this website. Click “to see the full list of VMware Horizon Clients, click here”

Click “Go to Downloads” next to the VMware Horizon Client for your operating system. (NOTE: Do not use VMware Horizon Client for Windows 10 UWP) eg for windows select first link, or mac bottom link.

You can now work on either the practice exercise or the assignment itself by following the appropriate instructions below (we have used the assignment file as the example): For MAC users Go to Blackboard under Assessment – Assessment Item 1: Accounting for Decision Making Assignment press Control and click on the Metro Mapping Pty Ltd.QBW file to see the ‘save link as’ option – and save the file with your family name and student number after the filename as per assignment instructions eg Metro Mapping Pty Ltd mack n123456 ( I have just used my name for simplicity here). Save the file to This PC > Downloads. For Windows users Go to Blackboard under Assessment – Assessment Item 1: Accounting for Decision Making Assignment and right click on the Metro Mapping Pty Ltd.QBW file to see the ‘save link as’ option right click on Metro Mapping Pty Ltd.QBW.–– click ‘save link as’ – and save the file with your family name and student number after the filename as per assignment instructions eg Metro Mapping Pty Ltd mack n123456 ( I have just used my name for simplicity here). Save the file to This PC > Downloads.

Once the file has saved, open it from the directory you saved to (ie This PC > Downloads) by clicking on the windows button.

Then click on file explorer – This PC > Downloads and then double click on the file. It will launch Reckon and open the data file ready to work on. You can then continue on with the instructions starting at 3 on page 4 of the assignment document – Decision Making in Accounting Assignment Sem 2 2020. If you have done the practice exercise, the assignment should take around an hour to complete. If you complete the assignment in one sitting, then when finished, copy the Reckon data files and your Reports (ie the Adjusted Trial Balance and Audit Trail) from This PC>Downloads to your usb ready to submit. Note the remote desktop will not save your files once you exit. If the computer is not recognising your inserted usb, remove the USB and re-inserted it when in the remote access. When you have finished working on your reckon file and closed reckon, you will see the reckon file saved where you opened it from (PC- Downloads). Click on the windows icon

Click on File Explorer

Should now be able to copy from PC >Downloads from the virtual desktop to Your USB drive

If you do not complete your assignment in one sitting or need to make changes, then save your Reckon files from This PC>downloads directory to your usb. Each time you want to work on your assignment, you need to open VMware Horizon Client on your desktop/laptop and go through the

instructions to remotely access the virtual desktop. Then copy your files from your usb to This PC>Downloads directory to continue working on the assignment.
