Bixler 2 Communication is one if not the most essential factors in a smooth business. Without it not even one department could operate to their full potential. With interdepartmental communication this ensures that departments are able to work together to complete a common goal without any hiccups or bumps. If there is not good communication between departments everything could fall apart. The best way to ensure there is not miscommunication is developing a way in which all departments are able to communicate effortlessly with each other. Cross training leads employees to work in better unison because they have a better understanding of the positions of their peers. Benefits of Cross-Training Cross training allows for the employer to save time and money. They are able to save money because there are multiple people able to preform each task. Instead of having one person trained to do one thing, a group of employees would be trained to work a plethora of positions so that no matter the task they will be able to get it done. When an employer needs something to get done instead of having to find a specific employee they know they are able to ask any of their employees to get it done because they have been cross trained. Cross training also helps the employees, normally if the employer asks an employee to preform a task they haven’t previously been trained for, they cannot perform the task. If the employee was cross trained on the other hand, they would have no issue performing any task the employer provides. Cross training also prevents employees from standing around because if they have finished their assigned task then they are able to do any other task that needs to be completed. How Cross Training Creates a More Positive Guest Experience

Bixler 3 Because of how smooth the service is with cross training guests will have less complaints. Guests will receive constant service because there will be less room for understaffing. Guests will be able to get to know multiple employees during their stay to which will allow guests to feel more comfortable. They will also be able to give feedback and get a response faster because of the cross training. How Cross Training Helps Managers Optimize Labor When employees are able to handle either large or multiple tasks at once it takes a lot of pressure off of management. For instance, with cross training a manager is able to assign one employee to handle both the customer service and more maintenance side of a job. This ensure that the management will not have to stay on top of their employees to make sure the employees know what they are doing. It also ensures that managers can focus on the customer rather than the employee because the manager has faith the employee knows what they are doing. How Cross Training Can Improve Employee Motivation If the employees are trained in multiple sectors they will not have to check in with management for approval and to see if they are doing everything right. Without having this extra layer of checking in there is another layer of trust added ethic will definitely improve morale. When employees are trained properly and know what they are doing it instills confidence in them because they know what to do in multiple scenarios. With boosted confidence comes boosted morale. Another point is that if all employees are trained in the same things, they will not develop superiority complexes within the workplace, and which will in turn lead to a more positive workplace.
