The company facilitates users facing basic functionality issues in the existing mobile app like confusing color shade categorization & linear color selection process, which was the primary brief for redesigning. Along with this, the app needed to be intuitive to help users with color selections. Asian Paints strategy for acquiring higher product demand could be three pronged. The task was to make the app: 

User-centric



Intuitive



Delightful to use.

System-assisted color selection: It was a unique feature of this application, which aided users to choose appropriate colors based on their existing color scheme. As part of market expansion and brand-building plans, the company has formed a consumer services division.

Consumer services division: A prospective customer can call the division’s helpline and check out all about paints and even get a quotation to paint his house or shop – a novel way to reduce the influence of painters over the customers’ choice of brands. Expert Assistance was built into the application, which enabled users to directly contact nearby color consultants. Asian Paints’ ColourNext, which announces color trends for the year, was integrated into the application, instead of cumbersome redirection to the website. To make the color selection process simpler, upfront color shade filters were added. Along with this, Asian paints integrated color spectra, which resembles the Asian Paint’s physical color palette, to match between the system and the real world. The color picker feature was redesigned to auto-pick color with efficiency, allowing users to select colors from an uploaded image. Occupy part of the intermediary space and try to sideline other intermediaries:

Asian Paints opened a service arm, which provide the services provided by the existing intermediaries in the market. For operationalizing this strategy, AP selected a few of the existing intermediaries, gave them the tag of Asian Paints service wing, and followed a franchisee model of operations. Being present in different seditions of the value delivery system and having a strong brand equity in the Paints market gave AP the credibility to operate a strong service arm. Heuristic analysis and usability studies underwent multiple rounds of brainstorming and ideation, which was followed by paper-wireframes as well as low-fidelity wireframes.

Suggestions and recommendations for improvement for Asian Paints: Asian Paints need to increase shareholder value by further improving the supply chain management in the subsidiaries (Asian Paints' supply chain management is considered the best in India servicing around 14,500 dealers directly from 70 sales locations and manufacturing)....
