Aim of the course Introduction of the main aspects that influence the car body design taking the mutual constraints into account. Car Body Design • Ergonomics and Packaging – Ergonomics – Packaging – Visibility (direct and indirect)



Structural aspects – Structure configurations – Structural analysis – Noise and vibration



Aerodynamics • Air properties and governing equations • Introduction to computational fluiddynamics • Aerodynamic resistance • Aerodynamic effects on vehicle dynamics, to the comfort and engine cooling • Experimental aerodynamics • Aerodynamic development of vehicles

Passive Safety – Restraint system – Crash and energy dissipation Car Body Design and Aerodynamics

Exam Computer-based with multiple-choice questions + numerical exercises using the Exam platform and proctoring tools (Respondus). Written test: 30 m.c.questions CBD: 14 questions, 1 correct answer per question, score for correct = 1, score for wrong -0.5 CBD numerical exercises: 5 questions, score for correct 2 (within 5% tolerance), score for wrong or no answer 0. Aero: 16 questions, 2 correct answer per question, score for each correct = 0.5, score for wrong -0.25 The result of multiple-choice questions and numerical exercise sums to a maximum value of 40. This result will be rescaled to a max written score 27/30. The exercise reports prepared during the semester are evaluated with a score from 0 to 6 points added to the score of the multiple-choice questions and the numerical exercises (after rescaling). The exercise reports have to be uploaded in pdf form on the “elaborati” section of the Portale della Didattica at least one week before the written exam. Score of written exam=(score of multiple choice + score of numerical exercise)*32/46 + score of exercise reports.
