Description

Tasnia Ahmed Media Studies 180 Professor Stuart Ewen Section 1D06 Makia Harper Assignment Two: “Reality. What a concept!”

Story One: Perspective with which I Disagree with

Social media influencer Sharifa Easmin displays a photo story called “Runaway Bride,” where she advises her female followers to run away from arranged marriages. She influences young girls to disobey their families and homes.

Men belong at the top of society. Men continue to persevere while women remain in their place.

In a tug of war between men and women, women stand no chance. In terms of power and status, there is no equality. Only one side can win.

When women try to escape their reality and rebel against societal rules, they have no one but themselves. Alone and dressed up in a subway station is a helpless and unsafe situation.

Women should be silenced because speaking out causes inconveniences for others. Keeping quiet ensures undisturbed peace.

Your labels define you. You are not good enough. Not smart enough. Not pretty enough.

Its better to hide behind a mask so you don’t appear vulnerable and weak to the public.

Story Two: My Point of View

Reaching the top shouldn’t be a competition. Women are just as capable as men.

People are going to label you no matter what. It is how you overcome these labels, that’s what matters. You’ll face criticism, sometimes even from your close friends. In a society that instructs us on who to be and how to act, we can be ourselves and prove to the world we are so much more than their labels.

Don’t hide behind a mask because you are afraid to admit who you truly are. Uncovering your pain is not a symbol of weakness, but rather a sign of strength.

Block out people who try to silence you. Your voice matters. Your voice can influence others to speak out as well.

Rather than being a tug of war for success, why don’t we all unite as one?

Run. If your intuition is telling you its not correct, run. Run from societal expectations and gender norms. Run from the decisions you don’t want to make.

Stop caring about what others are telling you to do. You don’t want to be living a life of regrets. Even if all you have is yourself, at least you’re the one making your own decisions....
